I’ve been a dedicated T18 user for many years. On a whim, I decided to give this a try because, polar ice? Yes, please. It worked beautifully. Gave me my icy blonde, and also didn’t look like it would have turned my hair that grayish hue that you can sometimes get if you leave T18 on too long. It processed a lot lighter than the T18, too, so it was easier to tell when it was done. Definitely a convert.

The toner itself is very effective, but unfortunately, I received a damaged tube, which is why I’m giving it three stars. Although the external packaging and tube appeared to be in excellent condition, when I started squeezing the toner cream out, I noticed that the last half of the cream had a different color, something I had never encountered before. It seems likely that the tube was poorly sealed at the end or may have been stored incorrectly or expired, as I couldn’t find an expiration date on the packaging—there were some numbers, but they didn’t resemble an expiration date. Despite this, I proceeded to use it because I urgently needed to tone my hair, and I had already begun mixing the cream with the developer. I used a 10% developer and left it on my hair for 30 minutes. The result was amazing on bleached yellow strands; however, it wasn’t effective at neutralizing orange undertones.

I used T16 and it didn’t work like I thought it would. I used 10 developer and it said to use 2 part. So I used 4oz.if the 10 developer for one tube of T16 was that right? . What did I do wrong?

This product did nothing to my hair. I have some level 9 pieces, but most of my hair is a level 10. I like crème toners and this looked similar to Ion “Platinum Lace,” that I typically go for, it’s not. I Purchased T16, in “Polar Ice” and it did nothing. I followed directions and only used 10 vol developer, but since it did nothing, I then used 20 vol (I know, don’t come for me I just really wanted to blend my roots) but it STILL, did nothing. I had better luck using one of those drugstore “conditioning” glosses in the shower than this stuff. I like Wella toners and dyes, but these crème toners… maybe it’s just this shade? I don’t know, but I won’t be wasting any more money finding out, that’s for sure.

  5. Sable Baby

I had lightened my hair to almost a banana yellow from natural dark brown with some red undertone. I used a 20 volume because I still had some small spots that were a little darker yellow/brassy and I wanted to make sure it toned them down as much as possible. It toned out so evenly (albeit a couple more cool dirty blonde spots where the stubborn brass had been but isn’t even really noticeable and is still a pretty, cool toned blonde) to a nice, ashy blonde, and tbh it was so much less harsh and smelly than the liquid toners- the liquid toners also tend to irritate my scalp after I lighten, whereas this caused zero irritation and didn’t leave my hair feeling dry or stiff. I’ll definitely be using this again for my touch-ups. 👌🏼

❌️ Sidenote: Be mindful that this is for properly prelightened hair; if you’re anywhere below a level 9 (pale banana yellow color) it’s not going to work and you most likely won’t achieve an ashy/platinum color.

This toner did as it said it would. Since my hair is short, I used 1oz toner to 2oz 10dev, 15min on the top and crown and then added more and brushed through the remainder of my hair for 10more min. It is a little bit more “Violet silver” than I prefer but I’m sure it will fade within a few washings. Overall, the best of the Wella Color Charm toners I’ve used. Recommend.

  7. Shelly

I’m a 54 yo woman with long, fine, naturally curly 3b hair. I’ve been coloring it for years with Loreal Cream Permanent 9NN. My roots however, are mostly white. Not grey or silver, but very white, so even a T18 was more color than the root and I’m ready to allow the grow-out to happen. My daughter did a bleach on the mid-shaft down to get the blonde out and put an Olaplex treatment as a layer of protection. We put the toner on using 20 volume and left it a total of 40 minutes covered with a platic bag. This toner is much gentler than the liquid. It barely had a smell. I washed it with purple shampoo starting from the ends first working my way towards the roots, making sure of full saturation using cool water. I let that sit as I showered, not hurrying. After thoroughly rinsing in cool water, I gently worked a curl friendly conditioner through and finished my routine. The color came out absolutely beautiful! It’s even and a true polar ice; matching my natural roots better than I could have imagined. We went to the city the next day to shop for my g-sons graduation party and I had a salon appointment for a shape-up. Everywhere we went, we were asked about my hair: whether it was my natural color or which salon I went to. My daughter was beaming as the complements came her way. She only does her and my hair as a hobby-not trained. If you’re looking for a toner that’s going to be gentle on your hair and come out the color you want, this is a good one. You can’t hurry it, but it’s worth the ending. My hair is soft and shiny. Someone asks about it everytime I go out. Most importantly, I absolutely love it and see myself going through the trouble of keeping it up.

Here is the before and after in my photo. I didn’t think it would work as well as it did!!! I didn’t want to over bleach my hair, so it’s still not perfect….. but this product made it almost perfect!
