I’ve been using this product for years to give a bit of control as I style my hair and to tamp down some of the frizz. A small even less than dime-size dollop is sufficient for a day’s worth of control. Used on dry hair, the product will keep hair loosely in place and give the sort of texture you’d expect when coming out of a swim in the ocean and letting your hair air dry. It’s casual and not a high level of control, but leaves the impression of an intentional styling. With the hair damp or wet, the control is much higher and the effect much more lasting. It won’t leave you with the wet look of hair gel, but will give a more sleek appearance and will hold a part and show lines from a comb. Overall, this is a versatile, easy to use product that you can apply once and know that you won’t have to worry about your hair for the rest of the day. The best feature, though, is how long a single canister will last. Most tubs last for a year and a half or two years of daily use, so the value is unbeatable.

I use this product when I want to keep my medium length hair in place, but still have it loose to run my fingers through it. It gives it a different look than having gel keep it in place without the flaking hair gel provides. Additionally, it’s on the more economic side of similar products that offer the same thing. I highly recommend this!

It does not leave your hair crunchy! I use this on my long unruly curls, and my son who is absolutely against anything that makes his curls crunchy became obsessed with it! He skates and sweats and this product still keeps his hair in place and his curls in tact! It sticks through sweat but does wash out easy! The smell is amazing compared to a lot of products! It’s also not overly expensive, doesn’t kill the pocket!

I’ve been trying to find the older Garnier “Surf Hair” in the round tub but it seems to have been discontinued. This product is similar: Smells similar, smaller container, more expensive; but slightly sticky and a stiffer hold that doesn’t seem to work as well. It doesn’t give quite the same effect of controlling the stray hairs but still looking like there’s no product in your hair like the older product; and nothing I’ve found has been able to replicate it. Head to head with the previous version, this version just isn’t as good. It’s disappointing that they replaced the older formula with this one; and there are even reports that Garnier has discontinued this product as well.

I have been buying this stuff for my husband for over 7 years, it is his favorite hair putty. He likes how it goes on easy and doesn’t make hair look super glossy or greasy if you use the right amazing. My husband tried the Dove hair putty but found that it was harder to “spread” on the hair than this. Also it has a pleasant light smell. We always stock up on a bunch, whenever there is any sort of sale on them.
