Many of the perm rods broke apart in my hand when trying to close them. All of the black rubber parts (if it is rubber?) of the rods disintegrate when they came in contact with my hair care products staining my hair bonnet. All of the hair care products that I use are organic oils and moisturizers; not solvents.
