I have pretty severe dry skin, and my scalp is also very dry. For a long time, I struggled to find hair care products for dry scalp that weren’t formulated for dandruff. (Dandruff is a condition where your scalp produces too much oil, so the flakes are larger and yellowish. Dry scalp is different, with tiny white papery flakes and is caused by the scalp not producing enough oil). Without knowing the difference, I initially tried products formulated for dandruff, such as Head and Shoulders, which just aggravated my condition. Trying different products was a huge pain because it takes time for them to work, for your skin to adjust, and you never know if the product is slowly enhancing the problem until… it becomes a bigger problem. Finally, I had a little success with a Unilever product that had tea tree as the main ingredient, but it wasn’t natural and contained other stripping surfactants. Searching for something more natural and gentle, I found this brand. Immediately, I noticed the wonderful cooling effect this had, which eased the scalp itch. After a few weeks/months, I noticed a reduction in the dry skin flakes from my scalp. I’ve been using this brand’s tea tree shampoo and conditioner for about 1 year now, and I find that my hair feels clean and soft. The light tea tree scent is pleasant. Even tho this product claims to simultaneously help with dandruff *and* dry scalp, which are fundamentally different, I am just thankful to have something that works for me after so many years.

Just as a bit of extra info: I have thick, wavy textured blonde hair (it’s thick and strong enough to break most hairbands). I also have very dry skin all over, and experience dry scalp (not dandruff) flakes. I also use prescription topical Clobetasol from my dermatologist for my scalp, which I am meant to apply “as needed.” I have noticed I don’t need it nearly as often since I started using this shampoo/conditioner in conjunction with it. Due to my condition, I cannot wash my hair everyday — I wash it probably every 3-4 days, which is fine since my scalp produces very little oil and doesn’t get greasy. The tea tree shampoo and conditioner keep my hair looking, feeling, and smelling clean between washes. I could probably get away with just using the conditioner, and have been considering cutting out shampoo altogether.

This shampoo has been a Godsend for my dry itchy scalp. I’ve seen such a difference in the flaking and itching I had been having. Nothing else has worked this well. It also smells really nice and it lathers well, too and my hair is soft and silky ! I highly recommend you try this if you have scalp issues.

The smell is very earthy. I think the conditioner works pretty well, but it has a strong tea-tree oil smell (as to he expected). However, I can still smell it long after my hair dries. I don’t hate the smell of tea tree, but it doesn’t mix well with my perfumes, and isn’t exactly the kind of smell I want to be known for. Haha.

It does make my hair feel soft and helps with frizz. The price is good considering the ingredients. I wouldn’t dissuade you from purchasing it if you like the smell of tea-tree oil, just be aware it will linger and some tea tree products I have used on my hair lean toward a minty smell, but this is very earthy.

I use Maple Holistics Tea Tree Conditioner in conjunction with the matching shampoo to tackle my oily scalp. This sulfate-free conditioner works well to balance and refresh my hair, leaving it feeling clean and manageable. It complements the shampoo perfectly and helps keep my scalp from getting greasy.

If you’re looking at this product then I’ll assume you’ve probably gone through several different brands and types of dandruff-treating shampoo/conditioner only to get mild to no improvement. I’ve had problems with dandruff since I was a teen and have never been able to get it under control with the typical Head and Shoulders/T Gel routine. This is particularly disheartening for me as my hair is waist-length and I’m pretty proud of it, but seeing dandruff in it is always embarrassing. I’ve used jojoba oils, Shea Moisture products, a thousand hair masks, etc. etc., and though some of these worked some times, none ever got the job done completely.

I got my first bottle of this conditioner at the beginning of 2020 after giving up on another brand and have to say that it works far better than anything else I’ve used. When you apply it, it feels very different from other conditioners; it actually feels like it’s doing something. It has a distinct smell and cooling sensation that was a bit off-putting the first few times I used it, but now I really enjoy it. The only way I know how to describe it is that it makes your head feel minty. The scalp itching that is usually constant for me goes away by the time I’m out of the shower and within a few days my skin issues are totally fixed. I use it once a week, massage it into my scalp, leave it for two minutes, then rinse it. I’ve been using it for several months now and will probably continue to buy this for as long as they make it. It’s taken four years of searching but I think I’ve finally found my conditioner.

    Pros:
    * Super, super, super effective, I can’t stress this enough. Everyone’s scalp is a bit different, but this is the only dandruff conditioner I’ve ever used that worked.
    * It’s also a great conditioner! Personally, I don’t use this on all of my hair (I have waist-length hair so that would use up this product in a week if I did that) but running my fingers through my roots always feels great after using this.
    * The effects last for several days! I pair this with a cheaper, sulfate-free alternative that I use on my ends so as not to use this stuff up too quickly. I’ve noticed that for me, I can apply this stuff to my scalp once a week for two minutes and not have any issues. So it doesn’t have to be an everyday thing.

    Cons:
    * Like most nice conditioners, it’s not cheap and you’ll go through it quickly. I’m sure if I used it on all of my hair that my hair would be maddeningly soft, but it’s just too expensive for me to do that.
    * Again, like most nice conditioners, it doesn’t spread all that well, so you end up using more of it than you would a cheaper conditioner. Not really a problem if you use it sparingly as I do, but if you’re conditioning all of your hair with every shower, you will be revisiting this Amazon page a lot.

And that’s pretty much it! I definitely recommend giving this a try. I will also throw in that I originally paired this with its matching shampoo, and while the shampoo sort of works, it’s nothing compared to how good this conditioner is, so I recommend switching to a more affordable shampoo as you’ll only need the conditioner.

    Best!
