I was experiencing allergic reactions to indigo. The common allergic reaction to indigo is an itchy scalp, my reaction was soreness and swelling, which led me to believe it was caused by an insecticide or herbicide, this is why I purchased an organic indigo to try out. I have to say it worked great and I experienced no soreness or swelling.
I’ve read through the one star reviews and I have to mention that indigo dye demises one hour after being mixed, if you wait to apply it you will see no color change, the dye no longer colors one hour after being mixed and must be applied immediately after mixing. If you seek a darker color consider adding one tea spoon of table salt to the mix.
I will upload some photos of my results, I used 50% henna + 50% indigo to achieve a medium brown color which is very close to my natural color and covers my white hairs. And I will upload a photo of my hair with just henna for comparison.

I’ve been using henna for several months. My hair is mostly white, especially my crown. I thought it if I kept using it my hair would become more auburn. I mixed a heaping tablespoon of henna in some water and let it sit overnight. The next day I added 3 heaping tablespoons to my glass measuring cup of the indigo and a teaspoon of salt. Added boiling water until I had about 1 ~ 8 oz cup of indigo mixture. Put on my unwashed hair for 3 hours wrapped in plastic. It was hard to rinse out. Has a bit of residue gumminess so I had to put some conditioner in my hair to be able to comb through my hair with my fingers. Henna & Indigo give me headaches too. I always take a benedryl before I use it, and sometimes one after as well. I need to wait one more day to wash so I’ll update if it washes out. I am somewhat new to using natural dyes. I’m happy to be closer to my natural hair color. My roots (which were just coming in) are a blueish green color, lol. But it’s not super noticeable. Update, it has stayed brown and I just redid my roots with the red henna. I did not get a headache this time! I mixed my henna and didn’t get to it for a day. No headache when premixed, covered for more than 12 hours and it worked perfectly.

I was a bit worried about the bad stories I had heard about some indigo powders. So I did the color test, paper towel test and smell test before applying.
I did the two step henna and indigo because I wanted to get rid of the two toned hair I had from the old hair dye and get rid of some grays. The henna was very smooth and creamy and I had a lot of left over. So my mistake was to treat indigo the same. I made less of it and when I stared applying I noticed it was gritty and heavy and took more than what I thought. So I was not able to fully saturate my hair like I was supposed to. It was a bit more difficult to wash out. But I am so glad my scalp and hair did good with it no bad reactions. The grays didn’t cover but the rest of my hair looks good! So next time I will mix more indigo.

I like the fact that I don’t have to soak it beforehand, and that you don’t need too much of it , d so i it lasts long.

I was allergic to chemical dye, so that I had to find a natural dye. Some of the henna neither covered my gray hairs nor lasted long. I was happy with the result of this brand. I left the mixture for almost 4 hours that covered most of my gray hairs. My hair was soft, not dry. It was easy to rinse with water.
I love to mix indigo with henna 1:1 for brown or 1:2 for golden brown.
Here are my recipes for golden brown.
1) Henna recipe (keep it overnight to develop)
Henna powder 1/2 cup
2 tbsp apple cider
3/4 cup warm black tea (2 tea bags)
2) Indigo recipe
1/4 cup indigo powder
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tbsp olive oil
few drops essential oil (optional)
Mix 1 with 2 and leave it for 30mins and then apply it on the wet and clean hairs.
Wrap with cling film and shower cap for max. 4 hours
