I really like this gel to get my currently overly long Covid hair under control, particularly since my wife wants a more swept-back look and especially so I can get away from the hairdo I have had since I was 3 years old (which has done me fine for 62 years but a change is usually a good thing). Anyway, this gel has a firm hold without being like concrete, looks good, does the job and lasts all day and through most of a night’s sleep. Plus it washes out instantly. Just great stuff, highly recommended.

Finally I found a product that holds well and doesn’t flake. There is a very light pleasant scent. You can apply it to wet, damp or dry hair. This product is awesome. Plus it doesn’t make your hair greasy. It can be brushed to soften the style too. The large size is an excellent value.

I was first introduced to Crew when getting my hair cut at a salon, and ever since then I’ve been buying/using it. Maybe 20 years now, and hopefully I still have hair for another 20 years to keep using it.
I like the big 33ox bottle with a pump, and it takes forever to go through. I bought this one without the pump because I can just transfer the pump from my last bottle to this one.
I recommend this gel to anyone that hasn’t found a favorite yet.

This is my favorite hair styling product. I have used it for over 20 years. It is not thick so it is just like wet hair when you apply it. Once dry hair stays in place and it is not hard, it is more like thick hair. The package i bought before buying this one was 7oz for like $12 this is one 33.8 oz and you can see the price /value. I did keep the 7oz container after it was used and i refill it from this bottle to use for travel and use this big bottle @ home

The “CREW” hair gel worked well in most conditions for styling, control , smell, and ease of rinsing hair or hands to remove product. Sometimes working too good when I would get caught in the rain! But that’s a lot better than not being able to get out of hair or off scalp for clean up! Stays stiff in the hair until you hit it with water which breaks it down quickly and easily! Still a good product.

I have been a happy customer of American Crew Gel for 10+ years. I have tried all different kinds of hair gels, in different price ranges, & this is the one I keep going back to time & again. I have thick hair, & this works well for me, & does not dry or flake. I like that it is alcohol free.
Smell: it has a slight smell, almost like a men’s cologne. Not overpowering & doesn’t linger. The smell is noticeable mainly when you are squeezing it from the bottle. After its applied, & throughout the day, there is no smell at all.
Hold: Just as it says- firm hold. Hair does not move & adjust the amount you need for desired stiffness. A little goes a long way- this gel is thick.
Wearability: This lasts all day for me, without flaking. I apply it after washing/drying my hair in the morning & it lasts thru out the day- same great hold as the morning all day long, without having to reapply.
Difference between formulas: I’ve purchased the light hold & firm hold. I prefer the firm hold because I use less product to get the desired result. Both had similar smells when applying, & are similar consistencies. Both are good quality gels.
Size: I like buying the 33.8 oz bottle. This size bottle typically lasts a few months, & it is more economical to buy the bigger size. I’ve found the best prices here on Amazon so far. What I usually do is if I see a great deal on it, I will buy a few, then will be all set for a year+. They don’t go bad, & when you find a bargain, buying a few extra will save you money in the long run, especially for a product you use daily & have been using for years. For comparison, my local large beauty retail chain sells these for $33. I’ve purchased them online for up to 46% off discount.
Can women use this?: Yes, Sure. Even though it is marketed for men, women can use it to. The initial smell smells like it should be just for a man, but as mentioned earlier, the smell goes away after applied, so a woman could use it if she needed to. If she ever runs out of her brand of gel, she could definitely use this one if she wanted to.
This is a really great hair gel. I give it a solid 5 stars & will continue to purchase.
