  1. PV159

Price is steep compared to competitors

  2. Norma Rodriguez

Holds hair very good but doesn’t leave hair too shiny

  3. F Kane

Small amount gives lots of hold & texture for fine hair. I’d buy again.

I have really heavy hair and it feels like you need heaps of this product, but you really don’t need much at all! Make sure it is lathered across the entire hair and especially the roots. It looks awesome and stays quite nicely throughout the day for a more natural kind of look if you can achieve this. I certainly have had some days where it just has not worked for me at all.

I loved how it looked the first time that I used it but it did not last long before drooping down. Checking out YouTube videos on how to apply, I see other people having the same issue. I tried it with seasalt spray and muk volumising spray but just wouldn’t sit well.

I started using voluminising shampoo/conditioner and it works so well now with my heavy hair. I might have to run my fingers through my hair a bit throughout the first hour after it’s hardened in and that helps for some reason.

I could not get it to go against the way my hair wants to go as much as I would have liked but I love the way this product makes my hair look. I think you have to be willing to be patient and try different things to get it to work.

This hair product leaves a great look to spiked hair and is not sticky. It is a nice matte look, doesn’t have any shine. Gives your hair a natural look and smells great!

You only need a little warm by rubbing fingers then apply hold is amazing without weighing hair down. Excellent product

Although this is a Bumble and Bumble sumoclay review, I’m adding information about sumotech as well:

I really like Bumble and Bumble sumotech, the way it smells, looks, and works. So, I thought I’d try Bumble and Bumble sumoclay. I like both products. They both have a similar scent and both do a great job of holding hair in place for styling. The sumotech has a bit of a shine (not too greasy or oily in appearance, but not matte either). The sumoclay has more of a matte finish in appearance. Given the main differences in shine vs. matte finish, each has its own appropriate time for use/application.

Both products hold up well. I recommend both or either.

I bought this because I was looking for something a bit lighter than sumotech.

This is lighter than sumotech, but a bit too much so. It only works when my hair is fairly short. It won’t hold long hair at all.

My biggest complaint is the odor. I expected it to be odorless like the sumotech, but it has a mild chemical smell that gives me a headache.

The product is a light grey color, and it leaves a slightly grey-tinted matte finish to my hair that doesn’t look very nice.

I’m still giving it 4 stars because it does what it does consistently, it just isn’t what I needed. If you need a light hold with a matte finish, and your aren’t bothered by smells it would be good for you.

I’ve been using sumoclay for a while now and and have found it perfect for holding my hair, which is thick and unruly. My routine is to apply B&B thickening spray to wet hair, then blowdry, and finally add the Sumoclay. Definitely only use it on dry hair – the one downside of the product is that if my hair gets wet somehow, it totally loses the hold. However, my routine is super easy and these products provide a lot more support to the structure than other products I’ve tried, but without making it stiff or sticky as many products do. Basically I take about a dime-size dab of product, rub it between my fingers to melt it down a bit, and then apply with fingers. Since I have short hair and only apply it to the top/front area, one of these tubs lasted me about a year of (near-)daily usage. The product does have an scent, but it’s pretty minimal compared to other options and fades soon after application (I am scent sensitive, so this is a big concern for me). I’d definitely recommend it!

I have short hair and followed instructions by spreading product between my fingers then through my dry hair. PERFECT!!!
If its too high just pat it and it stays and is not stiff, you cannot even tell you have product in hair even after sleeping, next day just run your fingers through it without the product on your hands, it still works!!!!!

Love this stuff. I apply it to damp hair and then blow dry with it in. Great hold without shine and hair feeling solid.
