This is an excellent relaxer. However, you need to use the whole system at every step. Here are the steps for a great relaxing experience with the Avlon Affirm Fiberguard Sensitive Scalp Relaxer.
1. Avlon Affirm Conditioning Relaxer System Protector: Use it throughout the hair and scalp and massage it thoroughly. This step is VERY IMPORTANT. It’s like using Olaplex. This product conditions the hair before, during & after chemical processing. It effectively straightens by chemically changing a third of the cystine crosslinks of the hair to lanthionine crosslinks.
2. Base hairline with Avlon Affirm Gentle Assurance Sensitive Scalp Protector OR petroleum jelly. This is common sense; there is no need to explain why.
3. Follow the Relaxer steps on the Box of the Affirms Sensitive Scalp Relaxing system kit. When you add the liquid activator, pay attention to how strong you want the relaxer to turn out. Remember, African women have several textures in their heads, so start with the coarsest parts of your hai. It’s not always in the back of the nape. KNOW YOUR HAIR. Also, use a mild amount IF YOU HAVE BLEACHED YOUR HAIR in the past. Use Relgalar if you used a different relaxer before trying this one or if you have average porosity. If you have virgin hair, use the most muscular strength, and then the subsequent application switch to regular.
4. Use Affirm FiberGuard Sustenance Fortifying Treatment Avlon right after rinse the relaxer and proceed to the last step. What it does: It is an advanced, high-performance conditioner with a Fiber Strengthening Complex (FSC), a revolutionary conditioning complex exclusive to Avlon that penetrates deep within the hair shaft. At the same time, cuticles are open immediately after rinsing the relaxer. What it does: Lipid-replenishing molecules (LRMs) enter the hair fiber to replace natural shine properties depleted by chemical processing. Special polymers realigns, seal, and smooth hair cuticles as they normalize hair. Micro-molecular proteins and humectants penetrate deep within the hair shaft to help repair fiber damage while moisturizing and fortifying hair fiber. What else you need to know: Works to repair and strengthen damaged hair fibers. Recommended for use as an Intensive Conditioning Treatment. Benefits: Strengthens newly relaxed hair while replenishing lost moisture. It helps hair resist breakage and shedding. Minimizes surface porosity. Adds fullness and body to hair. It detangles hair easily when wet and dry combing. Leaves hair silky and shiny.
5. Use Avlon Affirm Fiberguard Normalizing Shampoo and Shampoo two times. What it does do is that just-relaxed hair has returned to the normal pH range. It features a color indicator to confirm the removal of all traces of relaxer creme. Lathers effectively to cleanse and remove residual relaxer oils. Helps realignn and close cuticles. Leaves hair tangle-free. DIRECTIONS:(For complete details, refer to Professional Instructions.) After rinsing Affirm conditioner from hair, lather well with Affirm Normalizing shampoo. Rinse and repeat for a maximum of two sudsings.
6. Use Avlon Affirm 5 In 1 Reconstructor immediately after rinsing the relaxer from the hair and before the normalizing shampoo. When substantive conditioners are deposited well within the hair fiber, the hair is restored to its average pH level.
7. Use a good leave-in conditioner and style or set/ mold hair as usual.
TIP: I prefer Avlon Affirm Fiberguard Sensitive Scalp Relaxer instead of the Avlon Affirm Sensitive Scalp Conditioning Relaxer system. It preserves the integrity of the hair’s fibers better. I would still use the same steps and products I listed here. Some are from the Avlon Affirm Sensitive Scalp Conditioning Relaxer system. The two systems sub-products work interchangeably
Lastly, Use the Affirm FiberGuard Sustenance Fortifying Treatment Avlon once a week and interchangeably use the Avlon Affirm 5-In-1 Reconstructor. Lastly, do protein treatments once every 2 or 3 months
My hair is healthy, and I am 52 years old and in menopause; the Avlon Affirm Sensitive Scalp Relaxers have yet to fail me. Only overlap the relaxer on previously relaxed hair once you pull it through in the last 2 or 3 minutes, and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes before washing out the relaxer.
THIS A PROFESSIONAL RELAXER SYSTEM. On top of that, you only need to leave it in your hair for up to 15 to 20 minutes. Longer than that, you risk hair loss. I leave my relaxer in for precisely 15 minutes.
I relax during the coarse parts of the hair 1st and then the softest during the last 7 minutes of the relaxer session. DON’T BLAME THE RELAXER because you think all you have to buy is the kit. The kit ONLY gives you what you need to RELAX the hair you have to BUY THE COMPLETE SYSTEM. OR seek a PROFESSIONAL. POINT BLANK PERIOD!

Due to COVID-19 and my usual hair salon being closed- I was an essential corporate level manager at a hospital and still needed to look groomed even Over Zoom or Skype – I gave myself my first self relaxer / touch up at home after watching several videos. I’ve been getting professional relaxers for years.I like the consistency , no dripping, smaller size containers- one was enough for shoulder length hair. Base the scalp first, get your timer out, isolate your new growth , work fast , and say a prayer. I used the other Affirm products , neutralizer shampoo, conditioner, etc- I would not mix different products- because I am not a cosmetologist . I spent well over $ 100 On all the additional products but there are at least 7 other Unopened single use relaxer jars in this order- probably enough for 1 – 2 years based on the expiration dates. No scalp burns , you may need a family helper, but overall I was pleased with how it relaxed my new growth and I still have hair on my head! Trimmed my ends and blow dried my style. I spend over $ 125 just for one such visit to the salon. I’m still nervous about returning to the salon, which I like but I know some Customers Will be masking , some no mask and or will be half maskIng- Folks cover the nose and the mouth if you want to protect yourself and others- the nose and mouth are all part of the respiratory system – covering the mouth is not sufficient while we all try to get through this pandemic.i know they will take the business however it comes- my hair is not worth this health risk. I’ll be doing this again in 10 -12 weeks until this virus is contained or a vaccine is available.

I was surprised at how well this worked on my hair I got all the extras shampoo conditioner and the pre-app to put on before the relaxer. Still dried my hair out some, but worked well. Make sure to use a comb or I used the stir stick that came with it to wipe down after applying the relaxer, please do this step and you will be glad you did. I put one hand under a strand of hair and used the stir stick in the other and pressed down from roots to end! Been 15 days and eight washes ( wash every other night ). Says to use the conditioner ( reconstructor ) after you wash out the relaxer cream but I shampooed then used reconstructor conditioner. It’s good so far. This was my first time with these products, so minus a little dry hair I’m pleased.

This is probably the only relaxer that works perfectly on my confused grade of hair. My hair dresser introduced me to Affirm after a few other, very popular, relaxers failed to work. Since I move around like a gypsy (for work) it is rare that I can find beauticians that stocks Affirm in mild. This provides me with 2 yrs of relaxer so I can do it myself. Affirm leaves my hair straight while still maintaining the body, softness, and thickness with no breakage. I have a strong, think wavy grade of hair that holds moisture so the conditioners that you must use after the relaxer are a little to heavy, but I still use, but have to wash out with shampoo or my hair falls flat, limp, and greasy.
If you have a strange grade of think, course, tight waves, but no curl pattern hair, try this relaxer…you will love it.
