I’ve used the brand Hot Tools before, so my expectations were high. Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed. This oval tapered wand is part of the 24K Gold Collection. It comes with a 7-year limited warranty. The barrel is longer than traditional curling irons (6″), which allows you to better curl the entire length of hair. It has a plastic tip on the end so you can control the iron from the other end without burning yourself. It’s a wand, rather than a curling iron, so it doesn’t have a lever that clips your hair in. Instead, you wrap your hair around the wand and hold it in place. It can take some practice getting used to this type of wand, but it’s less damaging to your hair because there isn’t a clip for your hair to get stuck in. Also, your fingers get closer to the barrel with this style, so a heat resistant glove is provided. This particular wand is an oval shape, not round, so it creates a wavy look. The temperature controls are fixed ranges, so you can choose one of five temperatures. The temperatures range from to 280° to 450° F. It remembers the last heat setting used, so it stays at the same setting unless you intentionally change the temperature. It also has a safety 2-hour shut off. Hot Tools has done it again!

I have to preface this with I am not very knowledgeable about hair tools. I have been using the same, cheap curling iron for over a decade. So opening this was a real treat, because this is not your average curling iron.
The quality is apparent from the get-go. It feels well made & thoughtful in design. I wasn’t sure how I’d adjust to using a tapered wand, but it was a lot more intuitive than I expected. The included glove is great for protecting from the heat. It heats up quickly & seems to heat very evenly. The temperature adjustment is simple to use. I’m so impressed by this & it feels like such a huge upgrade from my old curling iron.

I admit that I’m not the most savvy at fixing my hair. I usually just use a flat iron to straighten it and call it a day. So when I saw this I decided to try it, as most traditional curling irons confuse me and don’t give me satisfactory results (probably due to user error).
This iron is pretty neat because it doesn’t have the clamp thing that I struggle to use. All you have to do is wrap your hair around the wand and you can get some pretty good results. I admit I still need a ton of practice on it, but it works to give you some nice looser waves. The Hot Tools brand seems pretty reliable usually, but time will tell regarding the longevity.
