The maxi glide has been around for a long time. Nothing else can compare to this one hair straightener. I bought this maxi back in the last 90’s, for my granddaughter. It lasted for years. Now that my granddaughter has a daughter in need of a straightener iron, I searched for the maxi glide. I was lucky to find it. Nd bought it again after many years. It’s still amazing and safe for young girls to use.

It’s a dud. Unfortunately, the product arrived defective and steamer does not work. I discovered this upon my very first attempt to use it, which since it didn’t work, I didn’t use it at all. So it’s not like it got worn down, it simply does not work. The water for the steam just drips through the chamber with no steam effect at the push of the button like it is supposed to do. I had a Maxiglide years ago, but gave it away since I stopped straightening my hair. My impression then was that their product was impressively good. Not the case now it seems, or perhaps it’s this particular distributor on Amazon. Maybe it would have been different ordering from the actual website. I should have known based on the condition of the cracked plastic interior within the box that it was not going to be a satisfactory experience. Maybe if the product had worked, I would love it like I did years ago with my other one. I am quite disappointed, especially since I had prepped my hair beforehand, watched the video and opened some distilled water. An unfortunate total waste of time.

This is my 4th Maxiglide in about 12 years (?). I’m guessing on how long it’s been since I bought that first one off an infomercial… that one had removable plates. The next two did not have removable plates, but I loved them too. This new one is the best and I’ll tell you why: RETRACTABLE PINS. The main reason I have had to replace them is they were difficult to clean because the pins were in the way. So I didn’t clean them and they built up gross looking and smelling residue over the years. I don’t anticipate that being a problem with this new one as they have fixed it! I have tried every expensive and cheap flat iron there is, thinking that I’ll find something better, and I keep coming back to the maxiglide. Even other ones with steam pale in comparison to this.
Some people have complained about the pins pulling their hair. I have not had this problem, and I suspect they are clamping down too hard when using it. The very first one I got came with a video explaining that you should only barely close it just enough over your hair and then press the steam button as you run it down the hair shaft. Also, do smaller sections to start until you figure out your best technique. It takes practice, and it’s a little larger than most flat irons, but once you get the hang of it it’s heaven. I have very fine curly hair. The kind of hair that tangles right after you brush it. My ends are a frizzy mess even with a fresh cut. It literally takes 5 minutes to smooth my hair out with this after I blow dry it. Of course, as I said my hair is very fine, so it blows dry in 5 minutes too, so you lucky ladies with thicker locks will take longer than I, but if you’re patient and practice you should cut your hair straightening time down from whatever it is now., and your hair will look amazing!

It came packaged beautifully, but took forever to come in. I also got a lot of emails about the shipping of this product saying i might have to cancel due to insufficient shipping information. The product itself heats up pretty quickly, but you have to heat it at it’s full maximum to get any real heat. There is also this little plastic bar that sticks out in the inside of the claps and it kept pulling my hair, it still hurts right now. Honestly for the price there are much better options that you can find for half the price at ulta.

Overall I think this hair straightener is nice. I did notice that when I used the retractable brush feature that my hair was getting caught- hence the four star review. The temperature gauge is nice overall and allowed me to pick a nice hot temperature without making me feel like I was damaging my hair. It was quick and easy to use!

As you’ll see in the 1st picture, I naturally have very thick, curly hair; the kind that takes a long time to style. For reference, I’m half Cape Verdean (though white presenting); just enough to make my hair that little bit harder to work with. And believe me when I say I’ve tried a RANGE of straightening tools. I’d seen ads and reviews for the Maxiglide on social media, but didn’t have enough faith in them to but one for myself, as it was far out of my price range. Upon seeing this listing with a staggering sale, my dad was nice enough to buy this for me as a gift.
The finished product is pictured in the 2nd photo. Ridiculously straight and shiny to boot; if I didn’t know any better, I might have thought it was some kind of sorcery. I might have been in a gray hoodie in that picture, but I felt ready to hit the runway with my newly silky hair.
I don’t know if it takes less time than other tools (usually an hour or 2, give or take), but for the time spent, the results are far and away the best I’ve gotten. The steam helps hydrate the hair and protects it from the heat, and makes it super shiny. There’s a bit of a technique to it, but it does come with instructions. I would highly, HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a straightening tool.
