On one hand, the texture is amazing, lightweight and easy to distribute evenly on my scalp. However, it’s quite expensive for the amount you get, and the smell isn’t exactly pleasant. Despite those drawbacks, I’ve noticed my hair feeling thicker after using it, so it does deliver results!

I have been concerned with my hairline for 14 years to the point where I’ve undergone a robotic hair transplant. To ensure that I keep what’s left of my hair, I’ve used both Rogaine and Happy Head (with topical Finasteride) but experienced issues with both products. Rogaine made my hair appear stiff and greasy, and Happy Head irritated my scalp while causing a throbbing sensation.
This is the 3rd bottle of KilgourMD that I’ve purchased, and I can report that I am experiencing less shedding than usual. The thin, strangled hairs that make up the front of my hairline have increased in circumference, and the quality of my hair looks less wiry. I can also style my hair with a matte finish because the lightweight serum is completely absorbed by the scalp.
In regards to the packaging, it’s nice to have a bottle that blends in nicely alongside Aesop, Le Labo, and Oribe products (if you care about aesthetics). I have not experienced any issues with the pump, and I appreciate how far a few pumps of serum go in terms of addressing the entire crown of my head.

When I read the directions for KilgourMD’s The Prevention Scalp Serum, I was surprised that it said to apply at the end of your morning or nighttime routine. I was concerned that applying it to my scalp when it was dry in the morning would result in greasiness. I applied it one day before bed and then again the next morning. I even applied extra to my part so I could its effect.
Surprisingly, I did not leave my scalp or hair oily. However, I don’t think I would apply in the morning because of its negative smell. It’s hard to describe the smell, but it is unpleasant. I am probably most likely to use this before bedtime on the night before I am going to wash my hair in the morning, but will need to still decide since it says to use daily.
You may want to store it in its box, because there are no instructions on the bottle. The directions on the box are very small and not the easiest to read.
I like the idea that this is for prevention of hair loss and am eager to see its results. As can be seen in its listing, there is also a separate treatment serum too.

I’ve been using this scalp serum for a few weeks, and it has been a game-changer in my hair care routine. Invented by an actual doctor at Stanford, it was made to prevent future hair loss and address imbalances in the skin of the scalp – like a “sunscreen for the scalp.”
From the first use, I noticed a significant reduction in hair shedding, and over time, my hair feels noticeably thicker and stronger in the areas where I use the serum. The product is lightweight, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave any residue, which is a huge plus for daily use.

6 weeks of use and there has been a notable increase in baby hair growth to my front hairline which has been receding over the past 2-3 years. I’m using both of the serums daily, and I find it easiest to apply after washing my hair or at least dampening first with water, so that the solution spreads more easily. I generally use them before bed, and haven’t had any issues with staining of my pillows (I have white sheets) and haven’t noticed an odor after applying. Packaging was all intact and the black glass bottle was super sleek too

I was really excited to order this product in hopes that it would help to create new hair growth. After using it for a little over a week now I am actually noticing a little bit of growth. My hair gets greasy very easily but this serum doesn’t make my hair greasy. I’m gonna keep using and I’m looking forward to seeing more positive results.
