For years I used a benzoyl peroxide gel that needed to be refrigerated. I only used it at night and still broke out so once I was done breastfeeding, I decided to ask the dermatologist if there was another product that would do a better job. In the next 9 months she prescribed me with a variety of products that ended up making my face flare up sooo bad that I avoided being in public and was miserable. At 35, I never imagined that I’d be dealing with 30 cystic bumps all over my face. I gave up, went to my general doctor who diagnosed with perioral dermatitis and prescribed antibiotics, after 4 months on antibiotics it was much better but not gone. She then prescribed me with a benzoyl peroxide wash which caused a flare up and then for many months battled with 30 plus spots of acne. It was a nightmare! I felt hopeless. I decided to call and ask for a prescription for a benzoyl peroxide gel to at least be putting something on my face. This exact bottle is what she prescribed and it was $28 through the pharmacy. For the record, it doesn’t have that foil seal on it even from the pharmacy. I saw someone comment on that and I also thought that was odd, but that’s how the manufacturer makes it. On the pamphlet from the pharmacy, it says it takes 6 to 8 weeks for optimal results and in bad cases it could be 10 weeks. I was surprised it would take so long to work but it’s important to be aware of this so that you don’t stop thinking it’s not working! At 6 weeks I finally got some relief but it really took a full 8 weeks to work. I do have to say that at 6 weeks I did start a round of 5 weeks of the same antibiotic that didn’t work before. I had that left over from the last prescription. This time in combination with this gel, it worked like magic!! Zero acne! I haven’t felt my face smooth in 2 years! I’m still in disbelief really. I’ve been off the antibiotic for a month and this gel seems to be keeping it under control. I’ll get breakouts here and there but they heal sooo quick and it’s NOTHING like before. I feel like my mistake was stopping using benzoyl peroxide in the first place. A decision I couldn’t regret more! I wanted to share this incase it helps anyone else.
Also important to note that I use it night and morning and often will also wash mid day and apply because my skin is so oily. 2 to 3x a day. I put foundation over it and you can’t even tell!
UPDATE:It’s been a year since I started using this exact product and my face is still doing great! I’ll get some acne before my period but so minor in camparison to what I was dealing with and it heals quickly. I no longer need to use 3x a day, and just use morning and night.

So I’m going to give y’all a little info on my skin first and if you can relate then u should def get this!! I’m a teenager and have had bad acne since like 8 years old. I just assumed it was hormonal but never really knew why. My skin was also dry so I never knew how to truly take care of it so it was always inflamed and dry and had lots of big pus filled acne and little red bumps. I went to the doctor and they gave me Clindamycin and Tretinion (both of which are prescribed to me) and I noticed they both worked pretty well on my skin. The Clindamycin worked to get the bacteria (which i didn’t even know was what was mainly causing my acne) and the other would heal red spots. I wore my cerave moisturizer as the base the prevent dry skin since both products are drying. It was good, but my insurance no longer supported Clindamycin. I had to research very deeply and realized that this product also works to get rid of bacteria deep underneath the surface, so I figured why not. I have dry skin, so I’m glad I didn’t get a stronger version. Anyhow, it burned my face at first so i had to be careful with not using too much but I started applying more and more and now at 2 months my skin is once again clear and happy. I hope this helps, and wishing you clear skin 🙏🙏

So I have had bad skin my entire life, and I will never have *good* skin. However, after years of trying various products, this is the one that works for me. I have very fair, very sensitive skin that reacts to anything and everything. My acne is bacterial, and the only thing that has ever remotely worked for me is benzoyl peroxide, although products like Proactiv seemed to just keep the acne at a moderate level and most everything made my skin flake off. Then I visited Paris a couple of years ago, and had an absolutely horrid breakout. In desperation, I went to the local pharmacy, and they handed me a tube of 5% benzoyl peroxide much like this. No fragrances, a very short list of ingredients, and nothing suspiciously pore-clogging like shea butters, oils, etc that are in some “sensitive” labeled products (like Oxy). In France, the directions are to leave the product on for 5-10 minutes, and then rinse off. It seemed funny to me, because why not just use a face wash, but it worked like a charm. I finally ran out of the product about two months ago, and went through three different cleansers in an attempt to find something similar. I tried gentle washes with aloe (which contained fragrances, resulted in a breakout), products with no fragrance (which contained a mile-long list of ingredients, again, massive breakouts), and then finally found this. It’s the closest thing to the stuff they use in Paris, and although this is labeled for use as a leave-on product, I use it like the French product and rinse it off after 5-10 minutes. Any more than that and my skin starts to burn. But it has been working perfectly. I’m so glad that I found something that I can use on my super-delicate skin, and after only a couple of days, I could confidently go makeup-free if I wanted to.

I felt as though I had to write a review, because this product showed up far, far down the list of options in my search, but it most likely is the most basic, fragrance-free form of BP that you can get on Amazon. If you have extremely delicate skin like I do, it’s a great product if you use it as they taught me in France and as I describe above. If you use it as a leave-on, it may be a bit harsh for anything other than a spot treatment. And of course, everyone’s acne is different, and BP works best on bacterial acne (as opposed to acne caused by skin cell buildup, which responds better to salicylic acid and the like), so keep that in mind.
