Actually we are here in Hawaii using this product right now. Kids went on snorkel trip yesterday and used it and couldn’t say enough good about it. It works and safe for the ocean. What could be better. Also great poolside and stays on well.

I haven’t tried it yet. I’m planning a trip to Key West and they have a limitation on type of sunscreen allowed. They have to be “reef relief” meaning they don’t contain chemicals that will not harm coral reefs. The information listed in the description states the sunscreen is comfortable and blends into skin unlike others that don’t blend (think of zinc nose). I haven’t tried it yet because I purchased it for a trip to Key West. If it works well I’ll raise to 5 stars.

Exactly what I was looking for when I went to Hawaii.

I tried around 8 different reef safe sunblocks. Australian Gold and Thrive were the best. The only reef safe sunblocks are those that use either non-micronized Zinc Dioxide, or non-micronized Titanium Dioxide. Any sunblock with other active ingredients may claim to be reef safe, but it isn’t.

Why wear reef safe sunblock? All water goes to the ocean eventually, so I try to use this stuff as much as I can. But you especially should wear it if you’re going anywhere near a tropical coral reef. They’re vital ecosystems that are having enough trouble as it is. Hawaii has already banned a few of the most harmful ingredients, though there are still plenty out there that are still technically allowed.

Thrive spreads more easily and evenly than anything else I’ve tried. If you’re concerned with the aesthetics of lotion that is visibly white, definitely go with Thrive. It’s pretty oily, but that oil allows the mineral sunscreen to be evenly distributed, even on hairy skin. This is from the perspective of someone who is relatively pale, so I don’t know about people with darker skin. My guess is that is would visibly lighten you a tiny bit, but since it spreads so evenly, the lightness will be uniform.

I would also argue that Thrive, along with most other mineral sunblocks, is functionally better than chemical sunblock. It protects you for longer, and stays on longer while you’re submerged in water. That said, Australian Gold is king when it comes to being functionally the best (it’s also cheaper). Thrive is cosmetically the best, and will probably protect you just as well if you aren’t going in the water.

One more word of warning, if you do try Australian Gold. Not all Australian Gold sunblocks are reef safe. They do make non reef safe, chemical sunblocks… make sure you buy the ones that say “botanical.” As far as I know Thrive does not make a non reef-safe sunscreen, so that’s another good reason to go with Thrive, to reward the company that has more responsible practices.

I know everyone loves this stuff. It has a pleasant, mild scent (kinda like a clean yoga studio), it goes on easily and seems to rub in without leaving a white residue. My skin seems well moisturized after I remove it (try an exfoliating scrub). But I burn when I wear it. Yes I reapply, so often that my wrist worn heart rate monitor can no longer detect my heartbeat through the sunscreen. It also doesn’t seem particularly water proof, as it beads up into white spots on your skin if you get wet. A day at the beach with just a few minutes in the water and 5 reapplications resulted in a moderate burn to skin that already had base color from a summer in the tropics. Next time, I’ll just wear a shirt and save myself the trouble of getting the stuff off.

i’m a single mom to a 4 year old so imma keep it short because he’s whining at me to go to the park rn but also i have adhd and if i don’t tell y’all in this moment to buy this sunscreen, i never will.

anyway, smell is faint and pleasant. no white cast whatsoever, instead it leaves your skin looking dewey and glowy and lovely. (i’m half black and probably a touch darker than alicia keys’ complexion for context.) reef safe zinc oxide mineral sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast? i don’t know what you’re waiting for.

I use a lot of sunscreen and this is a good one.

I have tried so many body sunscreens. I mean it. So many. Badger sport, Coola mineral spray, copper tone mineral spray, coola chemical mist, Coola lotion, blue lizard, the list goes on. Not great. I’m extremely sensitive and usually rash out from chemical and even some mineral sunscreens. The ones that don’t give me a rash usually leave a very white cast or have a weird consistency. This one goes on relatively clear, very smooth and no white cast. Super moisturizing. In the pics you can see it leaves a beautiful glow. There is a bit of a fragrance which is pleasant.

    Get this now!

Ps for my sensitive rosacea girlies I highly recommend Kosas dream beam spf 40 for your face and the MDsolarsciences mineral creme spf 50 for your chest. You’re welcome 😉
