The stinging associated with this product is not mild but about akin to a slap in the face. That said, I will happily buy it again.

How it works – you slather it on your skin, it burns like hell, and within moments you see a difference. Breakout related inflammation flattens out. Your skin appears more matte. For a couple weeks from first use, your skin will ‘purge’ – you may see increased breakouts as your pores are unclogged. I had been told this would happen so managed to stick with the product past this period. You’ll be thankful if you do. Also, during this period you find the product treats the breakouts as fast as they occur.

After the purging, you find that use of the lotion reduces breakouts within a day. Within a couple weeks any fine lines are reduced. Within a month, your skin tone is significantly more even and breakouts are very much diminished.

I’ve used a lot of products. This hurts but it is the best.

Jan Marini’s Bioclear is one of the only products that keeps my face consistently clear, blemishes minimized, and skin looking dewy and fresh. I had moderate acne into my 20s that I controlled with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide (BP). But when I turned 32, my hormones changed, and my acne decreased by about half. At the same time, my skin suddenly became allergic to BP, so I could no longer use it without developing a rash on my face — it was so, so awful. I was desperate and started seeing an esthetician, and she happens to carry Jan Marini’s skincare line. I swear, this Bioclear serum is the ONLY THING that keeps my adult acne at bay. It is truly a godsend, worth every penny. It takes my acne down to 1-2 blemishes per month! It has never been that mild before!

I typically purchase this product from my esthetician but couldn’t refuse Jan Marini’s 20% off Black Friday sale here. I bought it directly from Amazon, not a third-party seller, and the product is perfectly fine, smells right, has the correct consistency, etc., exactly the same as when I purchase from my esthetician.

Anyway, I find that I need to use Bioclear every other night, or my acne will start showing up again. I don’t think Bioclear is right for teens but, rather, adults who have persistent mild acne after hormonal changes. It’s an expensive product, so I’ve tried to find a replacement but to no avail. I just cannot find anything that works as well as Bioclear. So, until my skin changes again, I’ll be using it diligently. Worth its weight in gold!

    ** Update, April 2021 **

Bioclear is still the best serum I’ve EVER used. I’m now 37 and continue to use it 3x/week. Still seeing fantastic results.

    ** Update, November 2022 **

Ever the deal-seeker, I have now officially found a comparable product that costs about half the price: Paula’s Choice Defense Antioxidant Pore Purifier. It replicates the effects of Bioclear with the same key ingredients.

I still love my Bioclear and treat myself to a bottle of it when Jan Marini runs their 20% off Black Friday sale. But when that bottle runs out, for the rest of the year I use the Paula’s Choice product.

I have been using this product for years…at least 20 now….and it has given me the skin that so many people, and particularly dermatologists, compliment. I had acne as a teenager and was left with scarring. This was prescribed for me when I was 52 by a doctor, and it has made an amazing difference in my skin. I will say, however, that continual use is what has made the difference. It is the most expensive product that I use on my skin….but that is because IT IS WORTH IT! A little of it goes a long way, so the price really is not a factor, and if had to, I would pay twice as much to the get results that I have gotten.

Horrible presentation, box came open it looks like this was used

My dermatologist recommended this and other Jan Marini products. Bioclear evens out my skin tone and makes me look clean and freshly scrubbed. It stings a little bit when applying it – but that’s as it should be, because of the acid content. Yes it’s pricier than anything you’d buy at Rite Aid, but it is worth it. (I gave this 3 stars for moisturizing because that’s not really what this does – it’s basically a chemical exfoliant.)

Love Jan Marini Skin Products. I am 50 and many friend ask me what my skin routine is as I don’t have many wrinkles. I use her moisturizer , sunscreen, serum and skin cleanser and my skin has never looked so fantastic. Products go a long ways. I use this particular product at night . Wash my face, use this with moisturizer. Love it and won’t use anything else. I have Rosecea and works really great with my sensitive skin.

This lotion rapidly sinks into my skin. (I have oily, acne prone skin, and live in an extremely hot and humid climate). I am currently using a serum that contains benzoyl peroxide to assist in battling the acne, and while it keeps the acne under control, it is extremely drying. So much so that when it becomes extremely dry, it exasperates the acne and often becomes worse in that area. The only thing that helps break that cycle is this lotion. I don’t know what it is about this lotion – it is thin, watery, and smells bad. But somehow, it draws so much moisture into my skin and leaves it moist, soft, and best of all, keeps the acne at bay.

As for the ingredients, there is no sign of them on the bottle. I have looked up the lotion and found a few different set of ingredients. I thought I was purchasing the one with azelaic (sp?) acid, glycolic acid and salicylic acid. But unlike the other user, I do not feel the sting of glycolic acid in the slightest. It feels like regular lotion to me. Perhaps I received a different version of the lotion? I don’t know. Whatever’s in it is working for me, and after this lotion is finished, I will most likely purchase another bottle, even at it’s slightly high price point. It is worth the money to me.

    Edit: November 29, 2012
I have a new favorite! Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion is even kinder to my skin. It costs about the same, but it lasts much longer.
