Since proactive made as debut on the market, I have always used it. As an adult if I do not continue, I tend to have acne. The product size is small. I wish it would come in a larger size with the same price. Also, I have tried the generic versions and none of them work like this, the green face cleanser, exfoliates wonderfully if you have sensitive skin use the gentle one instead

Sorry the before picture isn’t great, but if you look closely, you’ll see I had a literal unibrow of blackheads on my forehead. Also I wear glasses, so my entire nose, top, sides, base, and all, was totally covered as well.
I will preface the review with I don’t have particularly afflicted skin, I’m using this for black heads. But my skin is naturally very dry. So the reviews about it causing intense dryness worried me.
I have been using for a little over 2 weeks and I can see the difference! My face is SO SMOOTH. I never knew black heads were what made my skin look and feel rough!
Here’s how I use it, because it is extremely drying at first, but taking a few extra steps and filling a potential knowledge gap can hopefully make it manageable until your skin gets used to it:
1. Stay hydrated! Not drinking enough liquids is a great way to make your skin look/feel dry before any product is even applied.
2. Only wash your face with COOL WATER. Do not use hot water! Washing with hot water is another way to guarantee dryness before any product is applied.
3. If you wear glasses, clean the frames, not just the lenses, especially the parts that touch your face, every day.
4. That first step is ABRASIVE. Reminds me of Saint Ives apricot scrub in the early 2000’s. Rub gentle circles and focus on the areas that need it most. It will start to absorb into your skin after a few minutes of rubbing it in. But I still follow another reviewers advice and let it sit for 10-15 minutes (or less, basically just as long as I can stand it).
5. Rinse with COOL water. PAT dry, don’t rub. I accidentally rubbed my face dry on a couple uses and can confirm it made the irritation/dryness exponentially worse. We all want it to work as fast as possible, but scorching and scratching the heck out of your skin, then rubbing it on a rough dry towel is not the way.
6. Follow the next two steps as directed.
7. For the first week, after the third product had fully absorbed, I applied my own non-comedogenic moisturizer. I used a hearty amount of Burt’s Bees sensitive skin night cream. After the first week, I did not need to apply moisturizer at the end.
8. A couple weeks in and I do the whole routine at night by itself. Now the 3rd step moisturizer makes my face a little greasy.
9. Looking at the update picture I took for this review makes me see it even more! Overall I’m very happy with the results! I will continue to buy this product for sure.

I’m using this because it’s for combination skin (oily + dry), in my opinion. I like original Proactiv but want to experiment. Small bottles + tubes = 30-day supply, big bottles + tubes = 90-day supply (costs a lot more).
However, I’m complaining because I bought this on July 26, 2024 — it was a deal for $17+. When I received it on July 29, the tube said it expires in August 2024!
My guesstimate is that Amazon has a lot of close-to-expiration Proactiv, that’s why they’re selling it cheap. I’m annoyed because THEY SHOULD’VE INCLUDED THAT IN THE DESCRIPTION, but…
…Before you throw it away, return it or call customer service, it’s good for a few months after it expires. Years ago an excellent physician, Peter Gott, wrote that expired medications are safe for a little while — just be careful.
