I’m hoping that this reviews helps someone avoid wasting their money like I did. Unfortunately this is sold as a four pack- so there is no way to try this toothpaste out first (unless you can find it in a drugstore). I was a big fan of arm and hammer baking soda toothpaste growing up. I just felt that something about the baking soda made my mouth feel really clean and kept my breath fresh longer. However, I had always suffered from canker sores without knowing the cause. As an adult I discovered that SLS in toothpaste products was to blame. Unfortunately, that meant I had to give up my arm and hammer toothpaste. That’s why I was so excited to see the essentials line come out without SLS. After using this for the first time, I was really happy and remembered why I loved baking soda toothpaste- my mouth was very clean and true to its claim I felt my teeth looked brighter. However, I woke up with tons of gunk in my mouth that I instantly recognized as mouth tissue that had shed off. I ignored this and continued to use the toothpaste for two more days until the inside of my mouth was so raw/ sore that I could not continue. Curious as to what could be the cause of this (as I had not experienced this before with other arm and hammer toothpaste from years ago), I looked up the ingredients list to compare with one of the older formulations. This new essentials line has baking soda as the FIRST ingredient! That means baking soda is the ingredient that the toothpaste contains the most of. As compared to older other arm and hammer toothpastes that have baking soda listed as the fourth or fifth ingredient. Having baking soda listed as the first ingredient makes it too abrasive to use every day twice a day. A shame really. Had the potential to be a great paste. The packaging even states that if mouth irritation occurs, discontinue use. So they are aware of the problem and continue to push these out to the market anyway. Save your mouth. Save your money. Skip this.

Could not find this product in any of my local stores have used it for many years and it is a good product. Maybe too good because our local stores are unable to keep it in stock. I would recommend it.

Great taste and leaves a clean fresh feel after brushing.

I am prone to getting canker sores, and have been all my life. Minor dental trauma, biting my cheek, etc.. has always led to a life of pain with canker sores. I found out a few years ago that SLS found in most toothpastes cause this as well. I switched over to SLS free toothpastes, and have tried many different kinds, all of which help prevent canker sores, but none would whiten my teeth. I’ve seen significant improvement since switcing to this toothpaste, and now buy it by the multi-pack. I highly recommend this toothpaste if you want whitening + a SLS free toothpaste.

I’ve tried various toothpastes without SLS to see if this would clear some issues I was experiencing with my tongue (slight white coating and red spots), and this Arm and Hammer toothpaste was the only one that both tasted good and made my tongue look normal.

Must have something in it that makes it hard to come out of tube when the ac is cooling down the room. It has changed taste. It’s really too much for me. I need to cut it with another tooth paste. But it cleans well if you can keep from gagging

  7. Marshall

you can feel the abrasiveness of this toothpaste and yet at the same time it’s not too much. It really cleans the buildup tartar on your teeth. I brought it specifically as a recommendation for my son however, I love using it from time to time as well since it’s for your teeth, it’s well worth the price.

Love it and works great! Freshens breathe, mouth feels cleaner.
