Nice razor but I get a much better save from my Rockwell 6C

This is my second review of this product. I thought maybe the blades that came with it were not good. I put a better blade in it. I don’t know what it is but I bleed like crazy. I have have been using double edge safety razors for years but this thing is terrible. Plus the handle is the size of a pencil slips all over the place. I Like the idea of just using half the blade. I would be careful using one of these if I were you.
I would love to get my money back. I’m tossing to out

I suffer with sensitive skin and ingrown hairs, but also have a thick beard. The 3-5 blade cartridge brands would give me pimples and insane razor burn on my neck. I switched to electric which helped, but still gave me irritation. I wanted to try a safety razor our of curiosity and decided on this model. It was a perfect introduction to safety razor shaving. It is not at all aggressive and finding the correct angle is a breeze. The corners of the blade are covered which means you won’t accidently cut your nose or ears. However, after a few months I find myself wanting something just a little more aggressive to get a closer shave without having to go against the grain.

Parker hit one out of the park on this model. Very nice weight, very smooth, easy to load/unload the blades. Blades that come with the razor are excellent. This is my opinion of course. Your experience may differ. I collect DE razors. I generally prefer mild to medium aggression razors. In my opinion the sweet spot for DE razor design is a blade gab of between 0.65 to 0.75mm; so about 0.70/0.73mm seems optimal to me. Blade exposure sweet spot is about 0.0 to 0.08mm; with 0.05mm being optimal. Again these are specs I seem to like when shaving. There are exceptions to these targets because other razor geometry comes to play. There are 5 to 6 geometric controls that effect shave feel. The two most significant are exposure and gap I mentioned and what most but not all razor manufacturers publish. I wish they would publish more data, but it’s understandable that manufacturers feel much of it is proprietary, which is fine.

First, I must disagree with the reviewer that said this razor was more aggressive than the Leaf Thorn. It is not aggressive in any regard. In fact, while shaving with this razor and seeing the terrible job it was doing on my coarse beard, I removed the blade, placed it in my Thorn and completed my shave. On top of this you have the issue of the blade getting clogged almost immediately after it touches your face. I don’t want to be entirely negative, so with that said, I love the weight of the SoloEdge, I like the head angle and I find the design to be quite fetching. On someone with manageable hair on their face, I would assume this razor being quite good- but for me, the three passes plus touch up shaver, I simply should not have bothered.

I bought the Parker mostly as an experiment, to see if I would actually enjoy shaving with it. This thing has gotten more shave time than expected and like the simplicity of returning to a single half edge blade. The Solo Edge has a sleek modern design and even though hefty to the feel it’s a delight to shave
and clean. The cool magnetic head makes blade changing a breeze. I’m a sucker for tools that work this well and look this good.

Well firstly a beautiful smooth razor, I am very very surprised with the Parker SoloEdge it’s extremely efficient for a Single Edge razor and so smooth, never once did I feel like I would cut myself, there is a lovely bit of heft to this razor but it doesn’t stop the performance it mowed 5 days growth in no time I never felt like this was too heavy or would slip out of my hand, this razor felt a match made in heaven with my skin type, who ever designed this razor knows there stuff the angle comes natural without much thought and for the price point well it’s a no brainer… The Parker blades are excellent too, sharp but smooth I really am looking forward to the next shave with this razor..😀

  11. Whatever!

I love this razor, which is basically half of a double edged safety razor. Perfect for anyone wanting to get into safety razor, it’s right in the middle between a safety razor and cartridge razor. But be careful, and learn the razor first. I cut myself badly at first, but I acknowledge that I got cocky and started going against the grain, which I never do by the way. Just take your time and you’ll be fine.

I have been using razors for a long time and using this Parker Solo Edge has been a surprise.
To get to the point this has been a really good experience. I have found the shaving angle to be next to perfect for my face and have had no cuts or razor burns yet. I have been using this for the past 3 weeks.

I have pretty much been through the whole shaving cycle. from Gillette 3blade to 4 then 5 blade heads to Electric shavers 3 ring rotary design and tried the foil as well. The electric being convenient and needed a quick shave before going out. Finally going back to manual razor shaving with Gillette 5 blades then took a crack at Dual Edge safety razors and found that was way cheaper and less cuts and razor burns. I have even tried to master the straight razor before settling down with the Merkur Futur DE for a long time.
Recent was looking to see if i should move on to a single edge razor so i looked into the best currently in the Parker Solo edge with 100 blades and Leaf Twig. Both had really good pro and cons with the Leaf being a little more expensive. The 100 Blades was a deal breaker for me at this time so i i might try the Twig in future.

Over the last couple of years, I finally made the switch to safety razors after decades of mediocre shaves at ridiculous prices. The advantage to this type of razor, aside from no plastic waste, is a smoother, better shave and blade prices are low, often well under $10 for 100 blades.
But unlike the old style safety razor that uses double edge blades, the SoloEdge uses half of a DE blade. You can either choose to snap one in two (making sure it’s still in its wax wrapper!) or you can buy them
already in single edge form, which I usually do. And each blade can be used multiple times, so the savings is really significant over time. Because the razor also features a small magnet under the base plate, it’s easy to the get blade into the proper position prior to turning the handle to tighten up mechanism.
This razor provides a smooth shave without irritation, far superior IMHO to the average to the more expensive and yet curiously less efficient 3-, 4-, 5-blade plastic cartridge razor. The angle that’s built into the handle makes it easy to quickly adjust to this style of shaving.
I have over a dozen double edge and single edge razors, so I have a pretty good base of knowledge and experience and I recommend this without hesitation.
