I love this product. This is 100% natural and I don’t have any side effects while using it. I first apply henna on my hair and later after washing it, I use Indigo powder. I love how it turns my hair black naturally. The color stays on for 3 weeks and then the roots start to look gray. I’m not even in my 30’s and I have a lot of gray hair. I don’t want to go for dyes and all, since it causes a lot of hair damage. I want to mention a few points about this powder:
    1. It does smell a bit. Not sure if it is the smell of the powder or if it is supposed to smell like that. Might annoy some people. But, the smell goes away with washing.
    2. I’d be very mindful if having color on my hand annoys me a bit. This will leave some color on your hand especially the nail bed if you apply with bare hands.
    3. Similarly, I’d also use a cloth or something on my pillow after I wash it off. I don’t immediately use shampoo, I use it the next day, therefore I have some leakage on my pillowcase. Similarly, when you wash for the first time after a few days of applying, your shower might turn black (Don’t worry, goes away with water). But, again not sure if this is a product thing or a brand thing.

I have tried another brand from a nearby Indian store, and that doesn’t leak, it doesn’t smell this strong either. Overall, if I keep aside the smell I’d buy this product again. This brand has my trust. It is 100% organic. Additionally, I have medium-length hair, and one packet lasts three times. That is like $3 or so, for coloring your hair naturally at home without any side effects.

Lastly, for the people with colored hair or with highlights. Be careful, guys. I made the mistake of applying the powder on my entire hair ( scalp as well as the length). The highlights also turned black (Lol!). Eventually, the color comes back after 2-3 washes, but something to avoid if you don’t like your highlights colored black.

I have salt and pepper hair, and it’s very fine. I normally mix 50/50 with regular rajestani henna and indigo to cover my gray, and it normally looks like orange highlights. This time I decided to do 90% indigo mix. Left it for about 90 min, and my hair is now dark brown, and no orange. Great fine powder consistency, no impurities. Will buy this again!

This is a good product. Unfortunately, some reviews do not understand that indigo herb is green. This is green
You mix it with water for dyeing hair. It must be applied over previously hennaed hair. It darkens as it oxidised, creating blackish tints over the red henna
It is not a suitable dyestuff for fabric.
You have to make a reduction vat for fabric.
When people refer to indigo being a blue powder, that is not indigo herb. That is chemically processed indigo dye.
This works absolutely fine on my previously indigoed hair. I’ve also used it to make a reduction vat with fructose to dye fabric.
    Worked fine then, too.

It has a very strong odour of indigo leaves. Otherwise looks like it worked very well on my hair. No reaction on skin. Absolutely natural. But anyone who dislikes smell, has to mix it with henna to reduce the smell. Quality and quantity both good

This is a great product to use for dyeing grey hairs that can be a bit tough to color. It gives my hair a dark brownish-black color that is very close to my natural hair color.
How to use for dark brown-black color: I usually dye my greys with henna the first day, which gives them an orangish tinge. Next day I soak this indigo powder for 12 mins in warm water and then apply it over the henna dyed areas using a hair-color brush. Wrap the hair in plastic wrap and keep it for about 2-3 hours. Then I wash it off with just plain water, no shampoo. The blueish green tinge from indigo neutralizes the reddish orange hues of henna to give a black-brown hair color.

Tips: When using first time, do an allergy test before you apply to whole hair. The first time I got it, I soaked a spoonful of indigo and applied a small amount behind my ear lobe and kept it overnight and washed it off. If you don’t see any redness or itching or other allergic reaction, then proceed to use over entire hair.
Also, do not using metal containers to mix. Do not to soak it for more than 10-12mins.

The indigo color tends to transfer a little on the hand, the first couple days, after that it sets better on the hair. Avoid using shampoo right after application to preserve hair color better.

I tried the two steps. Henna made my hair orange and next day I put this on. The hair didn’t change to black. It stayed brownish.

I’ve been using henna for years. I just buy lawsonia inermis with no other ingredients. Some people dislike henna as it can come out bright orange when coloring light colored hair first time. But since I use henna regularly it’s a very deep red and I truly do like it. If you ever henna your hair and find it bright orange, just henna it again and it will look more natural! Anyway, I wanted to experiment a little so thought I’d buy indigo as well. It’s similar to henna in that it’s a natural herb that doesn’t really harm your hair.

Researching a bit on the internet, I’ve found women with different color shades of hair (black, deep blue, light blue & brown) saying they used indigo. The reason why people get different results is a variety of factors. It matters what color your hair is when you put it on, also, the ratio of indigo powder to henna powder if you apply it together. It also matters if you apply it alone without henna, if you used henna previously and when, how long you leave it in your hair, etc.

I thought I’d just tell you what I did. I have had a deep red for years because I use henna at least every 3 weeks. I do like it but just wanted a change. I definitely didn’t want to lose all my red hair. Also, I definitely didn’t want it black. I just wanted my deep red but to add in more medium brown. I just did it today and the results are exactly what I was hoping for. Here’s what I did…

I took 1 + 1/4 cup of the lawsonia inermis and mixed it well with warm/hot water in a plastic container. I let it sit for about 45 minutes. Then I stirred it up and added in 1/3 cup of this indigo powder. I immediately then applied it all on my hair and scalp. I put a trash bag over my hair and then just did stuff around the house for about 2 hours. I rinsed my hair in cold/warm water. I don’t shampoo immediately after henna but I do apply a conditioner for 5 minutes and rinse again. I did the same this time. My favorite is any of the Shea Moisture conditioners, they seem to work well for me. So, that’s it.

I plan to continue using henna, but will add the indigo in as well when I’m wanting my shade to have more brown in it. I’d highly recommend using and experimenting with natural products like this versus regular chemical hair coloring. I know my hair has been a lot healthier since I made the change over. Anyway, happy with purchase and would buy again.
