I’ve always bought Braun shavers all my life – but this birthday gift is sent from heaven ! It feels lighter than most shavers, has twin shavers offset like the best have, shaves close, can be soaked to clean.
Now a proud owner of Andis pro Andis Profoil Lithium Plus

To begin, I would like to mention that I’ve tried numerous products for shaving: disposable razors (from almost all common brands), Feather’s AS-D2 Safety Razor (180$ All stainless-steel), Feather’s straight razor (with disposable blades), Head-Blade (both plastic and metal versions), A Phillips brand (Series 9000) Rotary-Style Electric Shaver, And just now the Andis Profoil Plus. I consider myself a ‘Home-Gamer’ style of ‘Enthusiast,’ but I wouldn’t necessarily claim any specialty or expertise in shaving. I have a strong compulsion to shave everything except my eyebrows and have tried as many products as possible to obtain the best results in my subjective measure.

Without much doubt, my Feather Brand Straight razor should be most capable of getting the closest possible shave (If used properly, which isn’t necessarily easy to do by yourself). Although I have used this razor to shave my entire body a few times, I don’t suggest doing so; it takes pure concentration and concern to ensure you don’t cut yourself. It’s not worth the slight benefits.

I don’t recall explicitly using my Feather AS-D2 for body hairs, so I’m still determining where I would rate that. But I have used it on my head several times and was impressed with the results.

Head-Blade (rolling-style) shavers were a useless gimmick. They could be conceptually more convenient when shaving the round surfaces of one’s scalp… But they did not impress me in any sincere regard. I regret purchasing the all-metal version, thinking that the premium cost might provide a premium performance; it was no different from the plastic models. Head-Blade razors, in my opinion, are just gimmick designs of disposable razors. I would not recommend them at all.

Disposable razors are very convenient for shaving one’s body (below the neck). Still, I don’t feel they provide as clean a shave when contrasted to the previous two Feather Razors. I prefer using the AS-D2 Safety Razor; The blades are ~50 cents when bought in bulk, and it provides the quality of closeness that I desire (although it is said to be a relatively mild shaver).

I dropped the big bucks on the Phillips series 9000, thinking more money = better performance… But for my personal use case, it did not provide me any benefit. I’m not the type of person who needs to shave daily. The rotary design did not cut as close as a razor (which isn’t a surprise), but the effort involved with using that electric razor was more of a hassle than just grabbing one of my bladed razors. I very quickly stopped using the series 9000 electric razor.

So that was my shaving journey up until about a week ago.

I have seen the Pit-Bull model of Head-Shavers and knew that they are advertised as being great for ergonomic purposes, yet they still have a rotary design… So I didn’t want to drop more money going down that path… However, While looking into electric shavers for men who wish to have a bald/shaved head, I came across the barbershop-style foil design.

After looking around, most reviews felt that this Andis shaver was near the top. But almost all lists include the Andis for a good Budget-friendly double-foil shaver, which has an extremely close shave, amongst foil designs. Some people prefer the Wahl, others like the BaByliss…

So I decided I would give it a shot.

I trimmed my hair with my Remington ‘Short-Cut’ to remove the bulk of my hair and proceeded to try the Andis Profoil Plus. It was apparent that the Andis model could shave the hairs after they had been initially trimmed. There isn’t any necessary compulsion to spend more money on the BaByliss model (which is said to be more hefty and powerful). I had no issues chomping through the reasonably thick hair on my head.

The first pass was good for removing the majority of my head hair. I then decided to see how easy or annoying the cleanout process would be for testing purposes. It didn’t take me more than 2 minutes to clean the blades and foils and continue working towards the second pass. (One observation made when cleaning the Profoil is that the hair trimmings are the same consistency of ‘Chili Powder,’ So it’s a fine dust that can compact easily. Just something to note.)

The second pass was good for cleaning up any missed stroke, where I needed to be more consistent in overlapping the lines of my first pass. The second pass also allowed me to better get into the more complex areas around the head and the challenging regions for my head.

The second pass gave me a consistent and smooth feeling across 90% of my scalp.

I finished things off with a ‘Half-Pass,’ Per se, By using my fingers to locate any missed patches and then swiping over those areas a few extra times. I’m sure anyone who has shaved their head bald knows what this process is like… Sometimes it just takes a specific angle to get against the grain for several annoying patches of your hair.

After a complete 2.5 Passes, I felt delighted that things were well-shaved and consistent.

I was shocked at how close the foil-style razor was able to get. I would not be able to easily distinguish between having used the Profoil Plus or my AS-D2 if I could only be based on the results (with no awareness of the shave taking place). It does come that close to razor-blade levels of closeness. Again, I would be hard-pressed to identify the difference in the closeness of the shave. [I’m sure some more enthusiast-level users or experts in shaving would be able to make that subtle distinction, but for me, they are virtually the same smoothness/closeness].

I was very impressed with the Profoil Plus Foil-style Shaver; it exceeded my expectations. My only minor ‘complaints’, if they should even be considered such, are the fact that it takes a bit of practice and trial and error to figure out how to hold the shaver for each part of your scalp, as well as the fact that it cannot be rinsed out with water as a traditional razor can be… Those are minor grievances when looking at the big picture.

I’m confident that with another few uses under my belt, I will feel like I’ve got a better technique for how to hold the shaver consistently for each section of the scalp. With more repetition, it will be pretty quick and straightforward to use the included brush to wipe out the hair trimmings.

As an additional note, I have found that a Q-tip does an excellent job at cleaning the inside of the end of the foils, where hair is prone to be compressed and built up… But be very aware that the foils are incredibly delicate, so you don’t want to jam a Q-tip into them; you’ll need to place your finger on the outside of the foil to counteract the force being applied with the Q-tip.

I highly recommend this product to others who want to get into a consistent routine of shaving their head. It will be cheaper than buying cartridges for disposable razors (probably not more affordable than AS-D2 double-edge blades; but the AS-D2 Model Safety Razor is also an expensive investment within itself, @ 180 $). You will find that this model provides very close, consistent, and (at least for me) Nic-free shaves.

Time will tell how frequently I will have to or desire to change out the foils/blades… But it will still be much cheaper than going for disposable blade cartridges.

It worked just as effectively on my face and neck as on my scalp for those interested in that use case.

My husband loves this, been using it for months now and it is great cut quality, good size to take on the road or on a trip, it cuts close to his hair without irritating his skin, battery life is good.

  6. Cliente Amazon

Excelente. Tener en cuenta que para usar después de un rapado casi al cero. La maquinilla te acaba el apurado.

    Best electric razor ever!
I bought the Andis 17220 to shave my bald head, which I had been doing every 2 or 3 days with a Gillette Mach or HeadBlade (with a four blade head).
Granted, this review is only after the first use. But the results were so great, I feel compelled to share my experience.

The Andis shaved my head amazingly close right out of the box and with no prep at all. In fact, my head was so smooth, you couldn’t tell if I used a “regular” razor with shaving cream!
This razor didn’t irritate my skin or pull my hairs. It also didn’t miss any spots and leave my head patchy like other brands/types of electric razors. So, I didn’t need to go over some missed spots with a razor.
Also, the Andis is small enough to carry in my overnight bag.
Purchasing this product was a home run!

I will post again after I have used it for a couple of months to share how it holds up over time.
I don’t expect any issues because it appears to be solidly made.

When i buy a hygiene product that is supposed to be new, i dont expect to receive one that has been opened and maybe used and returned . clearly had been opened as the flap in the front was torn, i noticed this before i opened it.. will try to clean it with alcohol before i try and use it, im very upset over this. im 67 and not very mobile , it would be too much of a hassle to return it. i gave it 4 stars just because 1and 2stars reviews are sometimes hidden, thats the only reason for 4 stars. buyer beware……………update …CLEANED IT, SHAVED TWICE, CLOSE SHAVE, IT WAS GOOD SHAVE, AFTER THE SECOND SHAVE I REMOVED THE FOIL TOP TO CLEAN IT , THE SIDE WITH THE BUTTON COMES UP EASYWIGGLE IT AND THE WHOLE THING COMES OFF, WHEN I TRIED TO PUT IT BACK ON THE THE FAR SIDE SNAPPED IN LOCKING THAT SIDE,THE SIDE WITH THE BUTTON TO RELEASE DID NOT LOCKIN, TRIED IT SEVERAL TIMES IT WONT LOCK IN PLACE. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE FOIL TOP BROKE OR SOMETHING,BUT I LOOKED AT THE CATCHES ON THE TOP AND THEY WERE THE SAME IT HAS TO BE THE BODY OF THE SHAVER ITSELF IS BAD …..AMAZON YOU REPLACE THIS WITH A NEW ONE, OR GIVE MY MONEY BACK SO I CAN BUY A DIFFERENT BRAND I AM LOOKING FOR YOUR NUMBER. NOW IM MAD AND AM NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS AS A LOSS…………..not willing to give up, i searched repair andis shaver, a post on u tube showed a guy repairing a battery problem. looking at his opened shaver, i looked at the locking tab and saw nothing on the inside that was close to it that would cause it to break, being new i wasnt going to open my shaver up, so with the top off i pushed in the button at the same time trying to turn it with my thumb and the tab popped out and now locks in place. so im now ok with it, it shaves as close as my razer, dont know how it got misaligned but, now evan when i put the top back on i push the button in and when top is fully down i release the button and it locks in place good. shaves close , i dont have a full beard like everyone else , i trim my mustache and only have to shave under my lips and chin maybe 1 or2 hairs on my neck and cheeks . i hold this very lightly on my face no pressure , i dont feel any raiser burn on neck or face, its comfortable and i can not feel any stuble after shaving it was smooth as my raiser.
