I was surprised when my order arrived. I was not expecting such a big bottle. So a great price for the size of the bottle. Reading the label there are so many uses for this product. I purchased it to soak and wash my painting brushes. I had read how olive oil soap help moisturize your brushes after a painting session. I may use it for other purchases now that I see how versatile it is.

I bought this looking for Castile that smelled like vanilla. I THOUGHT I liked the smell of vanilla, but I guess not! Wish I would’ve gotten the almond one. I was looking for a mildly sweet (and not spicy) scent, but you live and you learn!
Used as a body wash, this stuff MAKES MY SKIN ITCH LIKE CRAZY as soon as I begin scrubbing in the shower. And it persists for up to an hour after I get out. I suspect it’s simply that I’m sensitive to fragrances. Or at least I’m going to keep it simple and order unfragranced next time.
It’s also quite watery, but that’s the case with many other castile soaps I’ve tried. Still, it should be possible to get it a little thicker.
Additionally, the smell does NOT conjure thoughts of “ohhh I’m getting clean.” Maybe for heavily masculine men it would, but not for me. I’ll admit that I’m more of a balanced type (masculine/feminine), hence why I would have likely preferred almond.
In terms of how it feels afterward, it leaves a “squeaky clean” finish. Not bad. Some body washes leave a film or sebum or whatever you want to call it. Some leave you feeling dried out. I’d say this is fairly balanced in that regard.

June 2024 Update: Yes, in addition to being the best cruelty free soap in the universe (made in the USA!) this product defends against plant destroying pests (in my case the red beetles and their slimy larvae that devour lilies before they can flower). It also works well as a refill for foaming dispensers, as if you bought it off the shelf. I never thought I would be so obsessed with soap but here I am. I suppose there is one critical thing I could say. I mean, you probably can’t cook or bake with this, but I really can’t think of anything else.

Original Review: Super versatile, rinses clean, and smells delicious. So far I used it as a body wash and shampoo. No skin dryness or irritation. My cat loved the scent so much that he nibbled me right after I used it, then returned for seconds. Very unlike him, so it’s definitely this product. Great motivation for daily showering. Now, I do love that this product is cruelty free, but I will be experimenting to see if it kills and repels garden pests. Flowers > bugs.

Oh, wow. I just love this versatile Carolina peppermint castile soap!
I have sensitive skin and am always on the hunt for hand soaps that won’t make my skin break out. When visiting my sister (who has 3 kids and understandably burns through a lot of hand soap with all the constant handwashing), I noticed that she had a big jug of another similar castile soap of another brand, and she was always refilling her dish wand and soap dispensers with it. I loved it, but was a little off-put by the price of it when I looked it up on Amazon. Somehow, I stumbled on this brand, which was a little more economical. I’m glad I did!
First off, this feels like a thin liquid and almost like water, but a tiny bit goes a long way with this one. I was putting this in normal soap dispensers, and was shocked at how much luxurious lather I got from one little squirt. The first squirt, I was worried about how it felt (so watery) until it lathered immediately. Rinsing this off my hands, they feel refreshed with the slightest of tingles. When I checked the back of this very large jug, it gives you instructions for making this into a foaming soap, too – which will make this stretch even further.
The peppermint scent is amazing, and this cleans amazingly well while still leaving your hands feel soft. My husband has a “dirty” job and often comes home with grease, mud, and other junk on his hands. He used this once and was stunned. “Wow, what is IN this stuff? It’s amazing!” he said. It cleaned his hands thoroughly in one or two pumps (something that normally would take 3-4 times as much to get his hands clean).
I absolutely am obsessed and in love with all mint scents – peppermint, spearmint, whatever…and likewise for taste as well. This soap satisfies my love for all things mint. 🙂 I look forward to washing my hands each and every time.
Overall, this is just a fantastic and amazing soap that I feel is BETTER than another well-known, more expensive name brand that also sells peppermint castile soap. It lathers better, smells better, and you can’t beat the better savings for what you’re getting. I can wash my hands in this all day long with no issues whatsoever, which is quite a feat as normal hand soaps break my hands out after only 1-2 washes. I love – LOVE – love this soap! I would give it 10 stars if I could!

Really like this product. Been a long time user of Dr. Bronners. Decided to give this product a try and was pleasantly happy with the results. It did seem to take a little more product to establish a good lather, but I’m okay with that. The smell is fantastic and my skin and hair feel great. I have been using it for about 2 weeks now and the results are great. I’ll be ordering it again.
Awesome stuff. When it comes to something less harmful to the body and more natural as well as matching function, you guys nailed it. Keep staying close to more natural and you’ll always have customers like me on your side. –

The soap is great. However, it wasn’t the exact smell I expected. It smells more like vanilla and some baked goods? I don’t smell the tobacco. It does smell good though. I find it more pleasant than I expected.
I do like that I can smell it on my skin all day. Unlike other soaps I’ve used in the past. I also have really sensitive skin and get rashes easily. So far so good. No rashes etc.
Surprisingly, the soap also does not dry out my skin. Most soaps do. I have used African black soap for a long time. This feels similar on the skin.
I am definitely a fan of the smell and the feel of the soap.
