I’ve been using black box dyes for years, but recently decided to lighten my hair to start transitioning to gray. The product did lighten my hair a little, which I noticed when comparing my hairballs from the shower—definitely a difference! However, it does leave your hair feeling quite dry and brittle, so I recommend deep conditioning afterward. Be sure to give your hair a good rest between applications. Overall, it helped with my goal, but just be mindful of the potential dryness.

I had dyed my hair MULTIPLE times with SPLAT crimson red hair dye, which is notorious because it’s SO hard to get out. I didn’t even have to use all the bottle and it lightened my hair so much, now it’s ready to be dyed again to a different color! If you’re looking for something to take you back to your natural hair color without having to dye again, I’m not sure if this is the product for you, but then again it may be because I had used such a harsh previous dye. The remover didn’t itch, burn, nothing of that sort, absolutely perfect, so worth your money!!!

Es fabuloso el producto, lo aplique tal como lo dice el instructivo, lo tenía negro y me lo coloco rojo, ahora me toca matar el color rojo, pero quita el color muy rápido. No daño mi cabello. Gracias

First I want to say that I haven’t colored my hair in 9 months. I’ve always used boxed permanent color in medium brown, my natural color is medium brown with red tones. I have used it for YEARS . The first picture is what the color had faded to before using Color Oops, the second is after. The reason for not coloring anymore was to let my gray hair grow out and leave my hair natural. The process of doing so is too slow and the reddish brassy color was not making me happy lol. The product has exact directions and they should be followed precisely. Yes you’ll be in the shower until your fingers are wrinkled as prunes but in my case it was worth it. Lastly it absolutely stinks BUT more bearable than some reviews state

Yes, rinsing for 35mins is needed and the product does what it says. I’m natural brunette and dyed my hair 577cooper(permanent, no ammonia) last time 4 months ago prior Color oops and managed to take it off. Be careful of your clothes and towel you use to cover yourself. I’ve removed black fabric colour from my custom sweater and removed dye from towel while applying. I used shampoo and conditioner shown after, in addition to some leave in, argan oil and my hair was nice and silky.

    The Facts:
    – My hair had been dyed a couple months ago with 2 boxes of got2b’s metallic mermaid green semi-perm hair dye. It had slightly faded but as you can see in the pic (taken a couple days before dye removal) it was very much a teal color when I used this product.

    – I am Filipino and German by ethnicity, if that makes a difference to you in hair dye. The texture of it is pretty soft but not as soft as someone 100% European. My hair is naturally very dark brown (see eyebrows) but had been bleached professionally for a different color that faded out before I dyed it mermaid green.

    – My hair is pretty long, to lower-middle of my back and also very very thick. Think 6 hours to professionally bleach and dye thick. I also have naturally greasy hair and wash it (with color-safe products) every 2-3 days with a lot of conditioner so it doesn’t become noticibly greasy and feel gross.

    – I used 1 box of this product to remove the dye.

    The Review:
I used this product because I was ready for a new color and wanted to go a shade that a box dye would show up on, due to how dark the mermaid green shade I currently had. At first, I was worried because it said it said it doesn’t work on some types of dyes, and I didn’t know if my last one was one of them. I was also worried because I only thought to get one box and I have very long and thick hair.

Thankfully, the product worked great for me! As you can see in the picture, my hair returned to the bleached color it was before. There are a few spots I missed and you can see a little bit of the old color, but it wasn’t very noticible, at least not enough that I didn’t want to go out. I might have benefitted from a second box, but I don’t feel the need to buy one. I haven’t re-dyed my hair yet, even tho the box says you can, because I still want my hair to rest a little.

The box comes with the gloves as well as a plastic “cap” and, of course, the formula and applicator.

The instructions are clear- put on gloves, mix the formula in the applicator bottle, apply generously to hair, wait around while your hair is in the plastic cap and the chemicals do your thing, jump in the shower and shampoo thoroughly, rinse for a boring 20 minutes, then shampoo again, and finally rinse a final 5 minutes.

I followed the instructions for the most part, but admittedly got out of the shower about 5 minutes early and also heavily conditioned my hair. Do this at your own risk, but the water got ice cold for me and I couldn’t take it anymore.

The consistency of the stuff wasn’t what I was expecting, not like the consistency of box dye. Rather, it’s rather runny and watery, so when applying, I recommend being over a sink.

And then there’s the smell. I understand that these are chemicals here and there’s only so much you can do about it, but the smell is not pleasant. I can only compare it to being in a salon when someone is getting a perm but the salon is also trying to mask the smell with some banana-scented candles. It wasn’t nausea-inducing, but it did take some getting used to. Then again, I also grew up on a farm and was subjected to the smells of chicken coops and septic tank whenever it rained too much, so I’m not sure I’m the best judge. Thankfully, the smell does not stick to YOU. However, it DOES stick to the bathroom. It’s been 4 days and it still reeks of it.

Any Advice I Have Regarding the Product:
    – Plan out what you’re going to do for 20 minutes in the shower. If you’re not depressed, standing motionless in a shower for 20 minutes is not fun. If you are depressed, please seek professional care. I tried to pass the time by shaving my legs, but that wasn’t enough. My friend puts her phone in a ziplock bag and brings it with her. Again, do this at your own risk.

    – Heavily condition your hair afterward. Your hair will thank you.

    – Try your best not to spill any on the floor and throw out the used applicator asap to help prevent lingering smells.

I had dyed my hair burgundy a while back and it had faded to a kind of pinky-red. I wanted to transition to a blue-based color. Typically, I bleach my hair over the color and it works just fine, but this time my bleach test was a little rough so I decided to try Color Oops for the first time. I wish I’d just stuck with the bleach.

The Color Oops worked, my hair is back to looking as if the red was never there, however it came with a steep price. First, the instructions are to rinse your hair, wash with shampoo, then rinse for 15-20 minutes, shampoo again, rinse for 5 minutes, shampoo for a third time, then rinse another 5 minutes before applying conditioner. I was in the shower for nearly 45 minutes.

Two days after using it, my bathroom (and attached bedroom) still smell strongly of the chemicals, despite opening the window and running an air purifier for nearly 36 hours plus two liberal rounds of Febreeze spray. I could even smell it on my hands despite wearing the provided gloves.

While washing it out, my hair felt very brittle and rough. Thankfully this has subsided but I was actually pretty nervous for a while about the texture. Also, while washing I noticed two small chunks that had turned green. This has also thankfully gone away.

Last, I ordered the listing that said “2-Count” but only received one of the product. In the end though, I’m thankful for that in a way because I can’t see myself ever using Color Oops again.

Edit a few months later: I’ve knocked it down from 3 to 1 star because I believe Color Oops contributed to the failure of my next hair dye. I used the same brand I’ve been using off and on for a decade and had my first bad experience with it. I waited a few days after using the Color Oops even though the box boasts that you can recolor the same day. The color came out uneven and extremely light. After a couple weeks of being increasingly annoyed and disappointed, I decided to just do my normal routine of bleaching the color out then dying the next day. I did the same color again and it came out ten times better. I can’t completely prove it was related to the Color Oops but the coincidence is too strong for me.

I was unsure that I would be able to remove the color from my hair. I had colored it blue but it was so dark that it looked black. I have a wedding to go to and black hair will just not do. So. I followed the directions and 20 minutes later my hair is now the strawberry blonde that I was born with. Even though now in reality my hair is more silver. But the strawberry blonde will go great with my outfit for the wedding so I am happy as a clam!!

I tried to come from a blue black to a red on one day, needless to say this didn’t remove it at all. I followed the instructions and it didn’t work. However, I realized I needed to use the extra strength one instead.
