My dentist really wanted me to use this to keep my back teeth from grinding as they are becoming loose. First one I tried I apparently got it too far back (I do have an overbite so that was probably most natural for me). It rubbed against the bump like thing on the roof of my mouth – it’s not flat on one side. I nearly was in tears putting it in night after night because I was so tender there. So I go visit my dentist to find out what it is that’s going on. He stated I pushed it too far back when forming it to my teeth. It should be farther out.

I use the second one, but it folds down during the warming stage in the hot water. I buy a second box. I get it positioned more forward. It seems to fit so I use it night after night. When I take it out in the morning it feels like my jaw “adjusts” and feels “off” for a bit. My jaw is increasingly tender and painful and starts clicking and then starts locking in place and it’s hard to talk and eat without pain and my jaw locking up on me. I return to my dentist who says it is fit appropriately and continue to use and see a chiropractor for my jaw pain.

I go to the chiropractor who, even on first adjustment brings some relief. I continue to use the thing at night. I feel my jaw moving every morning. I speak to the chiropractor about my feelings that this is affecting my overbite and holding my jaw in a position that is not natural for it. I tell him I’m going to stop using it. The adjustment goes well though I’m still in quite a bit of pain. I don’t return to the dentist yet because I have a follow up in 2 weeks. I eat only soft foods as chewing is very painful. I talk as little as possible.

Next adjustment chiropractor agreed with me that the piece must be affecting my jaw as my mouth position seems much, much better and it took very little adjustment to get it where it needs to be. Now he says wait several days for the next adjustment to give your jaw some time. The first two days after that I thought he was crazy as it was a little better, but still locking up and painful to eat and talk. Another day after that it feels much better. It’s not automatically locking up or clicking as I speak or chew. The pain level has decreased a lot. I’m much more comfortable even though I’m not back to normal. Still not wearing this thing at night now.

That’s where I am so far. Chiropractor and dentist appointments are in two days. I plan to talk to my dentist about what this seemed to do with my jaw and my overbite and the extremity of my pain and difficulty in eating even soft foods. I’m still on soft foods right now as too much chewing/biting down is difficult and results in locking up and pain.

I’m positive my theory is right. I will update this review after my next appointments and hopefully confirmation of my theory, but my belief is this was the cause of much pain, discomfort and malfunctioning of my jaw. I was a little bit in discomfort before use of this just because I grind my teeth so hard at night but had no feeling of incorrect positioning of my jaw, locking up, grinding sounds, clicking and inability to eat or speak.

If you have an overbite very carefully consider your decision to purchase and use this product! I feel it is impossible to fit correctly as your jaw has to move forward to bite it in place on your front teeth to mold it to them to keep it in place as it needs to be.

I now have many hours of appointments and dollars as well trying to fix this issue with my jaw. Not to mention two boxes of these things to get it “right.” These weren’t issues before I used this. Perhaps my overbite is more extreme than others? I did see references to overbite in questions and responses that oh yes this is designed for all (I’m summarizing here and I can’t recall the exact wording)…I specifically went searching for questions and reviews related to overbite once I started suspecting it was causing this. Perhaps my dentist is wrong about the placement. Who knows? I will never wear it again though.

I don’t use much unless stressed but it works when I use it. I did notice this one cost me near double to the one I purchased just a few years ago. But of inflation due to market forces there I note.

Love it. Used now for six days, works great. A bonus is my teeth were so unaligned I had chin way back from front lip in just 4 days my jaws are aligned with my teeth, and stay that way all day. Never knew would help me have an even chin line. I have trauma caused Fibroma on my tongue from grinding teeth and tongue. I haven’t bit tongue since mouth guard. I followed directions exactly and it is a tight fight stays on till I pull it off. And best of all plastic excellent quality. Very happy I tried this one. It is not uncomfortable I forget wearing it most times.

After using a superplastic nightguard made by my Dentist for the past 20 years, it was shocked when it finally cracked. As a grinder and clencher, I was afraid that my teeth were in trouble. I tried substituting an athletic mouthguard in the past and, frankly, chewed them up in a matter of weeks.

So, I was hopeful-but skeptical-when I ordered the Dental Guard a few weeks ago. To my surprise it was very easy to shape and fit. It covered only my 6 upper front teeth (like my old nightguard) so, my mouth didn’t feel like it was full of bubblegum! It was very comfortable and, so far, has not been damaged by my grinding.

I’m sold! And NOT because anyone at Dental Guard “sold” me! The Guard sold itself and, even if it wears out in a few months or a year, for the price, it’s economical to replace! What could be better??

First of all, I will say it works to stop clenching. BUT…it’s VERY bulky. It triggers my gag reflex, makes it difficult to swallow and there will be drool. It was not easily molded (I think largely due to how insanely thick it is). If you can manage to mold it and push past the discomfort and bulkiness, I will say, it definitely worked. No headaches or tooth/jaw pain in the morning and it stayed in all night.

Honestly, if this product was a bit thinner I would love it. But the size is a major issue. I’m wearing it because a bit of discomfort beats the morning pain. But, a tweak to the size would make it not only effective but actually comfortable.

So I’ve had this for 5 days now. Molding it was fairly simple . I messed up the first one because I was afraid of burning myself and didn’t do it in front of a mirror . The second one came out perfect when I really bit down into it. However it is gigantic . I am a petite female and this things is so huge and bulky in my mouth. I couldn’t sleep at all the first night since it just felt uncomfortable to my mouth and jaws . Second night it improved and by third night got used to it . I previously had a version of this made by a dentist that cost $200 something and was very small and lightweight but I lost it so I wanted to try this as a cheap replacement . It has this tiny hole on the bottom used to attach the mold stick that keeps giving my tongue a blister every night . My jaws do feel less pain so I guess it’s doing it’s job but it’s so uncomfortable with how wide open it’s keeping my mouth and the fact it goes halfway back on my hard palette . Would work great if you have a big mouth. I have a small mouth and they really need to make a smaller version of this own without the hole on bottom.

It’s definitely saved my mouth from feeling sore every morning from jaw clenching. Way better than usual ones as this is just the front teeth which relaxes the back ones

I am happy with this product and It is doing what it’s made for. It took my a couple of attempts to mould it to my mouth though. It’s a little tricky

If i could give -5 stars i would!! Falls out continuously through the night!!!!! And is impossible to swallow when inserted. Honestly, TERRIBLE product.

After a year or so of using this guard, I thought it time for a review… I’ve had this type of guard for years, fitted by a Dentist. After a couple crowns it doesn’t fit very well anymore. Cost for replacement is over $500 (at least from my current Dentist). The best part of this style guard is that it fits over the forward teeth only. According to my original Dentist, this is preferred since you naturally won’t clench very hard on these teeth. However, when the guard extends to the aft most teeth, it might provide a surface where bruxism (clenching and grinding action) might cause TMD (temproal mandibular disfunction). (Yes, I was taught those words, though I had to do research to recall them.) This guard is not perfect (a little bulky) but I found it easy to get used to, and it performs very well. Plus I have over $550 dollars left in my wallet. Just, don’t bite too hard when you are fitting them so that your front teeth bite through. They work either way, but when the front bites through, you are left with an opening the tongue might want to play with.
