I like the ingredient list, but the performance is so lackluster that it may as well be water. Normally these types of aha peel pads at least remove oil and dead skin cells as you wipe them on. This literally performed as if the only ingredient was water. I waited for a burn or reaction or anything to happen, but there was none. I completely forgot I had put it on and went on about my day. No effect at all. Something is off, that’s all I’ll say. Pass.

I love AHA peels and I am loving this new trend of mild peel products that enable people to get pseud-salon-quality results at home over time without having to go through pain or redness associated with a chemical peel.

That being said, it’s very clear products like these also confuse some consumers, as is evident even here in the reviews where they are referred to as “toner pads” or are used for a midday wipe down on the face. Please (even with regular toner, I beg of you) do not do this. For some reason, American skincare has trouble accepting a toner as a toner and Americans tend to think toner is a 2nd cleanser, or a midday cleanser in general. I’m guilty of this myself until I actually went to cosmetology school. While a popular misconception, this idea could not be further from the true intended use for toners. While most toners DO have mildly astringent properties that do help them break down cosmetics somewhat, they are NOT cleansers. Toners and their astringency in fact are intended to cause your pores to shrink, tighten, and close – thus TONING the skin – and if it’s the middle of the day and your pores are clogged with sweat, oil, dirt, makeup, free radicals, dust, debris, skin cells, and all of the other wonderful things that collect inside of them, well, when you swipe that toner over your skin, you’re sealing those things into your pores, which try to close around the clogs – and can’t – but in the process do get stretched out and fatigued. Over time, guess what this causes? You guessed it – enlarged pores. You should ALWAYS have pure, clean skin when applying a toner to enable your pores to tone properly.

Additionally, AHA peel pads are NOT toner pads. Toner is a mild astringent that causes your pores to temporarily shrink and tighten after being cleaned with warm water. AHA is a strong and powerful acid that acts as a chemical exfoliant on your skin and needs to be rinsed after 5-10 minutes or it will continue to eat away at your upper skin cells, eventually causing irritation and possible permanent skin thinning.

Instead of using toner pads as a cleanser or using AHA peel pads as a toner, let’s examine the true use of these products and be sure to use them as intended. I really like using these Doctor Babor peel pads following my water cleanse and prior to toner 2-3x per week for two weeks, then once a week for six weeks after that. After that time, I usually would take a 2-4 week rest from chemical exfoliants as overexfoliating leads to millia and skin thinning, and I make sure to use rich and deeply hydrating serums, collagen, and barrier creams on the off weeks to build my skin’s barrier back up properly. Don’t forget to drink lots of water!

Overall this is a great product but it is simply a personal pet peeve when I see things being misused and having people suggest those poor uses to others. Please, do not use this product as a toner as it will actively be damaging to your skin if not used properly. When done with care, AHA peels and toner pads are a winning tool for helping keep skin young and vibrant! Be sure to use as directed, rinse after 5-10 minutes, and watch that glow shine thru after just a few uses. Highly recommended!

Really disappointed with the content – the pads inside a jar are dry, there is really no impact on application. A complete waste of money.

I love this brand so I was interested in trying these AHA pads. My primary complaint is that they are pretty dry and I end up dragging them across my face and forehead. If they had more moisture the experience would be more pleasant. They do burn a bit but I have found them to be effective with age spot texture issues. No scent.

I am in my late 40’s with dry, sensitive skin made more so by my employment as swim instructor and coach. Many products do not work well for me, so I am hesitant to try peels, but I really would like to incorporate them in my beauty regimen.
This arrived in a plastic sealed box so you will know it has not been tampered with. Unfortunately, the lid was not tightly sealed on the jar, and the inside only has a plastic lid, not a seal, so my pads were mostly dry. The pads are large and very soft, there is no rough texture or feel to them at all. My pads were damp, but not really wet. I was able to use them without any burning or itching or tingling. I have never had an aha that didn’t cause at least tingling, so I suspect that this has evaporated to the point of not being effective.
After using I have no redness or negative reaction from my skin. I also haven’t seen any improvement.

The Doctor Babor Refine RX AHA Peel Pads arrived in a sealed box, but the jar’s lid was loose inside and it seems to have dried out the pads somewhat (jar is not sealed). The pads are slightly damp but not as moist as I would have liked. However, they do deliver a tingle on my skin when using. I don’t know if the compromised packaging has effected the efficacy of the product, but I hope not given their cost. I can only say the pads do exfoliate leaving skin feeling cleaner and extremely smooth after use.

The pads are very soft with a more refined texture than other peel pads I’ve used in the past. They do leave my skin reddish, even after rinsing off after the prescribed 10 minutes. I would be cautious about using this if you’re going out somewhere. I follow up with a cooling moisturizer. Use 1-2x a week.

At the time of this review, the listing shows Babor’s Refine RX is priced for porcelain perfection. One constructive suggestion for the good folks at Germany-based Babor is to include the full ingredients list here since so many consumers want to know all the ingredients in a skin care product. At the time of this review, potential users are in the dark before ordering. Also, when thinking of our beautiful faces, who wants to read too slick marketing about air pollution and that “we offset emissions?” Detective work to the Babor USA website was equally frustrating. Only key ingredients are listed.
