I always come back to this tanner. The color is BROWN not orange. This works best for me to use 2 tanning mitts WITH thumbs…it makes all the difference! I spray a few sprays directly onto the mitts and then BLEND BLEND BLEND! Be careful with over-spray around the counter, sink etc. I use it in the evening…it suggests that you don’t use lotion beforehand and I have to agree. If you use a good/moisturizing body wash when you shower then you won’t need to worry about applying anything before applying this. It has a slight coconut scent that fades as it dries. In the morning I hop in the shower for a MI Ute to do we of the color guide…this is NOT the same as the tan that develops on the skin. Other reviews mention the tan rinsing off the next day in the shower…this tanner ‘stains’ the skin… what you see washing off in the shower r the next day is just the color guide, colored so you can see where its going and if you’ve missed any spots. If you do a thorough job blending, you shouldn’t have any issues with streaks. As mentioned above, I apply mine in the evening and some oof the colorguide DOES rub off on to my ivory colored sheets but it washes out with no stain or color left behind on the sheets at all. Slight ‘tan’ smell (my husband says it smells like cashews 🤷🏼♀️) but it isn’t nearly as strong as some other brands and since I apply at night and shower in the mornings its never an issue.

Fake bake flawless self tanning spray. I didn’t take ‘before/after’ pics because I already had a tan and didn’t think it would be really obvious. It goes on with a brown color which I think helps to blend – I used the included mitt. On the scent – it’s called ‘black coconut’… not sure what that means.. but to me, it smells like coconut cotton candy – if that makes sense. Sweet and coconuty. Now I want coconut cotton candy. Anyway, I like the scent. It doesn’t have that weird smell, like fake tanners of the old days by a long shot – thank goodness. It goes on smoothly – and dries super fast – so I recommend ‘blend in a circular’ motion quickly. It is NOT sticky or tacky at all when it’s dry. I put on 1 coat cause I was already tan. I just wanted to see what this smelled like and applied like. I think I can keep this up – it’s easy. The ‘brown’ sure looks natural to me. I like that too. I exfoliated and lotioned up the night before I applied. I can’t really reach my back by myself – so I gotta find a willing helper for that. 😀 So far, I am a fan. Having said all of this, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. This stuff is great doesn’t look orange, smells good, and makes your skin feel soft afterwards. I’ve had some compliments that it looks like a reg sun tan. Highly recommend!

If I could give a half star, this would be a 4 1/2! I first tried Fake Bake a couple of weeks ago on the advice of a salesperson at Ulta. Finding it at Amazon for half price made stocking up here an easy decision. It’s different than any tanning lotion I’ve used before, and easy to get an all-over tan. I had never found a self-tanner I felt comfortable using all over because of streakiness, and I’ve used them in every price-range.
This particular version (there are several) comes with a soft mitt and latex gloves to protect your hands from any cast-off color. Make sure you saturate the mitt fairly well; the color will transfer more easily. The tanner is infused with “a cosmetic guide color” so you can see where you’ve been, and blends flawlessly. The potion dries quickly and you can dress soon after applying, but I usually wear something loose while getting ready to go out. If you find you’ve missed a spot, it’s easy to correct, and if you’ve gone too crazy or colored “outside the lines” you can wipe off your mistakes with a washcloth and a little soap and water. It doesn’t feel sticky or give off a quirky scent; however, later on I did notice a faint odor, but nothing like with tanning products I’ve used in the past, and usually only before I shower off.
Speaking of showering, the instructions advise an evening application before going to bed, with a cleanse in the A.M. Please Note: you will find color on your light-colored linens the next morning (don’t worry; it washes out), so I’ve started putting it on after my morning shower. I was surprised by how much color washed off (the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5), but a truly-believable tan remains. For us light-skinned users, it is truly a miracle product!! I plan on trying the other products in the Fake Bake line, including the one for the face and the body polish.

I’ve been using Fake Bake for years; occasionally I try other options and always go back to Fake Bake. There is virtually no odor, it dries quickly, provides a very smooth tan, and the color is great- it’s a natural brownish tan with no orange look at all. I did end up ordering a set of 3 additional mits because after 2-3 uses the dried product on the mitt starts causing streaks and flakes on my skin, so after a few uses I toss the used mitt into the washer with a brown bath towel (don’t wash with anything light to protect any potential color transference) and air dry, and grab the next mitt. I haven’t tanned in the sun in years; I simply use Fake Bake and typically go through 3-4 bottles in the summer, and apply the tanner around 2-3 times a week.
