Straight my strong curly hair
Andrea Lewis –
I like this flat iron a lot, the last one I ordered fried my hair so bad that my stylist had to put a leave-in treatment on me when I went to her. While I was in the salon I started doing some research on a straightener that delivered results without the damage, but also affordable. That search brought me to this one. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the water compartment on mine leaks and even on high I do not see much steam being utilized. I’m sure if I returned it they would replace it. *sigh* I can never make myself mess with returns though lol.

This is the one my daughter wanted and she is very happy with it she has quite long hair and lots of it and it tends to be a little bit on the curly side and this makes it nice and straight with very little effort.

I tried both this and the $200+ Steam iron and as a hairdresser I don’t really see the hype.
This particular model leaked water when in use and the steam setting would turn on and off through out styling. Which defeats the purpose of the entire product.
The 1.5″ iron is only good for straightening shoulder length (or shorter) hair. So unless you have long hair, you wouldnt be able to curl or wave your hair with this product.
I contacted Hot Tools about the alternating steam setting and was reassured that that isn’t normal for this tool and was promptly sent a new one that did the same thing. I think it is normal for this tool.
anyway, was unimpressed

I purchased this after my original flat iron died. I had a Chi iron that was at least a decade old. I wanted something that could easily flatten or curl my hair without having to do weird flat iron turns, if you know what I mean. I love that the steam is optional on this too, and that I can flatten or curl my hair with it so easily. It’s my new go to hair styler.
**Update 9/11/24
I was on vacation and was packing in a hurry, so I made the mistake of running water over the barrel to cool it down and it stopped working – totally my fault, and no it wasn’t plugged in. But I’ve already received my replacement. This is the only hair tool I use anymore. 🩵

I have thick 3a hair and I have always struggled to get sleek straight hair. I use the steam setting go over each strand about 2 times, it is faster and my hair looks less frizzy.

The plastic part where you fill up the water (for the steam) has a little clip that broke off & I couldn’t get the water container off. It was stuck on there.

My hair is naturally pretty straight but I have a LOT of it. I used a chi straightener for years but it wasn’t doing a great job and would take a long time. This thing is amazing for the price!!! I love the steam feature and the wide plates make the job quick even for someone with a lot of hair! 10/10 recommend
