I finally decided to dye my hair platinum at home. I bleached it to a pale yellow with BlondeMe (2 rounds of 30 vol for 45 min on dark brown/black fine hair, virgin roots processed ends w/ 2-3 bleach washes on ends which had prev been colored red) and then used this all over. I didn’t even tone my hair yet and yet leaving this on for 1-3 min shampoo and 1-3 min conditioner neutralized my hair to a gorgeous white!! A perfect canvas for whatever I want to do to it next. I will probably still tone it to get it more silvery but this stuff is great while I give my hair a while to recover from bleaching before toning it! I was shocked it worked so well on untoned hair, and I imagine it will be great for maintaining my hair after toning. Honestly, I chose this based on how well Joico hair dyes have worked on my hair and my friends’ hair but had never used any of their other products, and was not disappointed.
The set is fairly priced in my opinion, especially given how well it works. No, it isn’t cheap, but it isn’t crazy expensive either, and overall for the set I think it is pretty great. Also, I think it will last a long time, as you really don’t need much to get the job done (I used a bit smaller than a quarter-sized dollop for my medium length bob), and you don’t need to use them every time you wash your hair (and with processed hair, you really shouldn’t wash it every day anyway). The scent is pleasant but not heavy handed, and it did not stain my shower or towels. The shampoo is a dark purple color while the conditioner is a light lavender- I cannot speak to their effectiveness individually as I have only used them together.
What has worked for me is to lightly shampoo with my usual shampoo and then use this shampoo, this conditioner, and finish off with a deep conditioner or my regular conditioner. I personally find that for my platinum hair this is not moisturizing enough, but that depends on your hair washing frequency, level of damage, personal hair type, etc. I cannot tell if it contributes to the dryness of my hair or not, but I have not noticed a negative effect on the moisture levels of my hair. However, I didn’t buy this for the moisture level, but for its color qualities, and on that front, I am satisfied.
