I love this serum it really helps to exfoliate my skin without having to use something abrasive. I have sensitive skin and this hasn’t cause any issues and I use it every other day.

First, I want to mention that I received this product for evaluation. I planned to use the Kiehl’s Ultra Pure High-Potency 9.8% Glycolic Acid Serum to improve the texture of my skin. I expect that it works without irritating my skin. This product has met all of my expectations, and the quality is great. After applying the serum, I did not feel any irritation on my skin. I used it for four consecutive days. Now my skin is softer, and the complexion is more uniform so I will continue using this product at least twice a week.

I do get a little tingling sensation when applying this serum, but no other irritation or negative side effects. I have used glycolic acid before so my skin is not new to it. I’ve been using it 3-4 times a week and it’s keeping how much I have to do manual exfoliation at bay. I have definitely seen improvement in my skin’s texture, less buildup of dry skin, smoother appearance. Really happy with this serum.

This 9.8% glycolic acid serum from Kiehl’s is not for the weak or the sensitive-skinned. It’s a very potent formulation and features a high concentration of chemical exfoliant to make your skin glow and look nice and glassy. It can sting and even burn if used correctly or absolutely ruin your skin barrier. Do NOT use this with any other actives such as vitamin C or retinoids unless you want to have a very bad time. 🙂 Also if you have angry red mountains on your skin, don’t use this unless you want them to turn into volcanoes. Use only on unbroken skin.
I am not sensitive at all and it stung when applying. I followed up with hyaluronic aid and a thick moisturiser before bedtime to seal in the ingredients. After a week, my skin does look much more radiant and my pores look much smaller so I’m very pleased with the results. If you have to use this in the day, please wear sunscreen! The formulation was fragrance-free and vegan so there is a lot to love about how this is formulated.
I think as long as you’re careful, this exfoliating serum will work wonders for those trying to achieve the glass skin effect. But if you are sensitive by any means or have broken skin, please don’t use this. It’s not suitable and the packaging should be updated to reflect how strong this really is. It can melt your face off if you’re not careful!

The kiehls serum can be irritating to the face if your skin isn’t used to it. My skin was okay with it cause I do tend to use glycolic acid products regularly, but I still only used this every other day rather than daily. This did not improve my skin texture over night, but I have high hopes that eventually, slowly it will. The price isn’t that expensive for a product from kiehls and it’s worth a try. I think if usually you are not used to glycolic acid, you can probably add a drop into your moisturizer or even in your toner so that this isn’t so strong.
Papaya –
My skin is very well versed in acids and this was stronger than I thought it would be. I applied 4 small drops all over and it stung a bit, especially near my nose, for about a minute (it felt like a very mild acid peel so it wasn’t bad at all). I layered a moisturizer on top and sealed with tiny bit of oil (my usual nighttime routine). My skin was SO smooth and bright looking the next morning! Like “just had a facial smooth” around the nose area. It felt like I did a home acid peel but didn’t have to watch the clock and wash it off. I felt like it did not do any damage to my skin barrier which The Ordinary can feel like sometimes. I think I can probably do this safely 2-3 times a week. I like this formulation more than TO acid peel and more than the Dr Dennis Gross peel pad for the ease of use and less nose wrinkling/sour scent and less burning but more fabulous results! Highly recommend!

This amount of glycolic acid seems to be a bit too much for my sensitive skin. I do not have ultra-sensitive skin, but this product caused my skin to sting and feel a bit raw after applying. I’m not able to comment on results as I will not be continuing to use this. Recommend spot testing this product.
