It treats my sebo-psoriasis very well. Yes, it does smell, but it smells like coal tar. What else do you expect when it has coal tar in it? It doesn’t smell nasty at all, just smells like coal tar. It is very liquidy so be careful when opening and pouring it out. Doesn’t dry out my hair at all either!

At 3%, these are the highest concentration of coal tar that I could find. My dermatologist says this shampoo is as effective as clobetasol shampoo for psoriasis. and it’s a lot less expensive than clobetasol shampoo. The only downside is that it smells awful but you can use a conditioner rinse to get rid of the smell.

I have a very sensitive scalp. At least once a year, I’d go through a months long period of having unbearable itchiness and flakes to the point that I’d get sores on my scalp. I’ve also have been dealing with an immense amount of stress the past few years and have lost quite a bit of hair.

I’ve been using this shampoo for 4 months now and it has drastically helped my hair and scalp. The hair loss has significantly decreased, and my scalp only feels a little itchy when it’s time to wash. My hair even feels like it’s growing a little faster and the new growth feels so much softer. I do my best to only wash my hair only every 6-7 days to avoid dryness.

The only thing about this shampoo is that 1.) it is pretty runny, so be careful not to pour the whole bottle out! And 2.) (which is to be expected of dandruff shampoos) the smell at first is a little strong and off putting. If you use conditioner afterwards, it definitely won’t be an issue.

I find this stuff works really well and it’s much cheaper than the type I was using before.
It does have a thin consistency, but I don’t mind it, actually it makes it easier for me to apply. The way I do it, I apply it on my dry scalp using a hair dye applicator bottle with a pointed tip (like you could find in a beauty supply store or box dye kit). Shake the shampoo really well first, and then put the amount you estimate using into the dye applicator bottle. Then I use the pointed tip of the bottle to go down my scalp in rows, much like if you were dying your roots, only it doesn’t have to be that precise. Either periodically while applying or after I’ve applied it all, I massage it around on my scalp to make sure I cover any spots that I might have missed with the bottle. Then I put my hair up in a bun and wait anywhere from 20 or 30 minutes to an hour. After the times up I get in the shower and lather it up and wash it out like normal and follow with a good smelling regular shampoo to try to banish the smell (though I find I can sometimes still smell it faintly anyway). Still, I’ll take the faint smell over flakes and sores on my scalp any day, and I haven’t found another type of product that works as well as the tar.

If it’s your first time using this type of product you’ll need to build up the amount of time you leave it on your scalp for so that you don’t end up irritating your scalp worse. (And obviously there’s no point of leaving it on longer if it works well enough at a shorter time). I have very long naturally dry hair, so I don’t like to wash it too often, but washing too infrequently causes worse scalp issues. That’s why I like the method of leaving it on longer, which seems to work better and allow me to get by with less washing.

It does have a strong smell, but I can’t count that against it since I suspect it’s due to the active ingredient, coal tar, which is providing the desired effect, since all coal tar shampoos I’ve tried have a similar strong smell.

I used Neutrogena T Gel Extra Strength for years as recommended by my dermatologist, when that was discontinued I tried about every coal tar shampoo there is.

Is this the best out of all that I’ve tried? No – BUT it is the most cost effective while still being effective in general. Yes it’s more liquidy than it feels like it should be, but it’s not a deal breaker. Plus, you don’t have to use very much to get the job done, so you aren’t buying a new bottle every few weeks.

If you’ve used a coal tar shampoo before, you’ll be familiar with the smell. It doesn’t smell bad, I actually like it, but I can see how some may not like the “earthy” scent.

Overall, it may not be a perfect product, but I think it’s great considering the price and effectiveness!

Bottle leaks, if you have be careful it’s toxic to them and they will attack your head when they get a whiff. Very watery and hard to use. Doesn’t seem to help much with scalp psoriasis

First this type of tube is not ideal for this formula, its very liquidy and will squeeze out ALOT if you are not careful. A bottle with a cone top would be better. You only need Very little of this stuff it foams up really well!. Also for me i notice this is a product that works well over time, meaning, the first day I use it I still have some itching but everyday after the itching goes away and stays away much longer any product I’ve used in recent years. Be warned it does have a strong smell LOL as do most high percentage cold tar products. It will linger on your hair if you don’t use some other sort of conditioner to deten the smell LOL I have locks so I don’t condition My hair in the traditional way I use oils. But if I don’t think about it, It will leave a smell that you and people very close to you, might notice lol. But it’s not horrible at least not to me. I don’t care about smell as long as the itch it goes away. This is a great product and I will repurchase.

Many reviewers talk about smell. Yea it smells, but no worse then the rest of these types of shampoos in my opinion. I also dont think it lingers as badly throughout the day as some do.
As for working; it subsides the problem. Did not get rid of problem.
