I bought this since I have dry scalp issues and I’ve tried many times to fix it. I was hoping this could help but it hasn’t really worked at all for me. I was using it twice a week for a few months and didn’t see any improvement.

I used T/Sal shampoo after washing my long, curly hair with a clarifying shampoo. The shampoo was surprisingly not drying. In fact, my hair felt softer after using this shampoo than my regular shampoo. My scalp felt smoother than it has in a while and I can’t wait to see how it improves over the next couple of weeks.

I have very oily skin and hair, and I get bouts of depression where I don’t wash my hair as often as I should. It actually made my hair thin, my scalp would get so oily and inflamed I’d get scaly buildup and sores and lose a ton of hair every shower. I tried Nizoral but it was expensive and I felt like it wasn’t really addressing the root issue (the oily scalp part, not the depression lmao). I bought this to try and my hair is now much fuller, my dandruff and thick scales are gone, and for the first time in my life I can go a few days without washing my hair and not experience any discomfort or scaling.

If my hair is really dirty I usually do the first wash with a regular clarifying shampoo, then follow up with this and clip my hair up so it sits for a few minutes while I wash my body. Be wary it doesn’t get in your eyes! I noticed a small amount of improvement immediately, but it took a few weeks to notice major differences. I’m writing this review now because I showered today and was absolutely blown away that there wasn’t a carpet of hair on the shower mat when I finished. Nizoral never accomplished that.

I really don’t have anything bad to say about it. It doesn’t dry my hair out (keep in mind I’m a greasy gal though), makes me feel extra clean, and even though the bottle is tiny it still lasts me quite a while and is cheap enough. I’m a fan 🙂

I have used this shampoo before in the summer, but recently rediscovered it. I live in a hot, humid climate. When the days feel like 115 degrees, my thick hair makes my scalp feel like every follicle is clogged. This summer has been especially brutal and I there qre days I feel like I can’t get my scalp completely clean even after shampooing. I’ve been using T-Sal once every two weeks and it made a world of difference. My scalp feels like it can breathe again and the seasonal itchiness is gone. I will retire this when the weather gets cooler, but will definitely add back to my routine next summer. Highly recommend!

We are still waiting on a dermatology consult, but seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis run in the family. My kid with beautiful, long, wavy (2c) hair and sensitive, sometimes scaly skin developed severely matted hair. It was almost like a helmet of mats up to an inch thick. There was no detangler spray, cream, clarifying shampoo, or conditioner that helped–and we tried so many over the course of months. We also tried using fine crochet hooks and Argan oil on dry hair (similar to the process for detangling dreadlocks) after a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse. That helped us learn that the mats seemed to be glued together by a foul smelling residue of dead skin cells that began from the underside of the hair. I read about T/Sal shampoo on a support thread for seborrheic dermatitis and decided to give it a try–since it works specifically to dissolve dead skin cells. It is helping a lot after just once use, and I could cry with joy! This is the first product that has loosened the mats enough to separate them into smaller clumps and begin combing and separating hair! We applied it to wet hair for about 15 minutes, pressing the lather deep into mats with a scalp massaging brush and then rinsed thoroughly with a powerful handheld shower spray to try to rinse out as much residue as possible. We still have a lot of work to do with a wide tooth detangling comb, but this product has greatly reduced my kid’s discomfort and my despair. It has given us both hope that we will salvage most of the hair in a normal looking bob or shullet/wolf cut style (as opposed to a pixie cut or shaving). Hopefully this shampoo (and later medical advice) can be tool that helps keep this from happening again. I hope this review helps somebody else!

Edit to add: Thanks in great part to Neutrogena T-Sal, the mats are history! It worked best for us to shampoo with T-sal every other day and work on the mats for 30 minutes to an hour just prior to to each wash with T-Sal. In our case, it was best to work on dematting DRY hair with a high-slip product (stay away from olive oil! It makes seborrheic dermatitis worse and doesn’t help with the residue, especially on wet hair!). I found the best “slip” using a tube of “Cowboy Magic”detangler available on Amazon (not allowing it to get on the sensitive scalp–just the matted hair). I used a pintail comb (sturdy rat tail comb with a metal tail) and fine metal crochet hooks to detangle with the Cowboy Magic. Once the mats were partially released at their bottom edge I would follow the shampoo with Aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner, gently combing it into the bottom edge of the released mat with a rubber scalp massaging brush. Finally, we also bought a tangle teezer brush to help my kid better manage some independent daily brushing going forward. I hope this edit helps somebody else–there is hope!

seems like every shampoo i used caused some kind of negative result on my scalp; even the expensive ones from my dermotologist. I used to get soreness on my scalp, flaking and dry skin after shampooing and after a day, my scalp is super itchy and oily. Even though i washed twice a day, i was getting this and it was soooo frustrating.
After research i looked for shampoos with salylicic acid and this Neutrogena one is awesome!! There is no smell and it lathers up well so you don’t need much at a time. During the wash, i did not feel the soreness and post wash my scalp felt so free; like it could breathe again!! Its the second day now and my scalp is not oily or itchy and no hairs falling out too. Will definitely buy again!!

I hate my scalp ever since I turned 40. I’m 42 and am dealing with perimenopause. Whatever hormonal imbalance I have going on is wreaking havoc on my scalp; my hair is falling out, my scalp gets buildup easily, and I break out with painful folliculitis very easily. I’m an anxious picker by nature, so I tend to mess with the bumps and create scabs.

I’ve been trying scalp rinses (like the Inkey List’s Glycolic Acid) and medicated shampoos like Nizoral (one of the better shampoos I’ve tried). I’m still having breakouts, so I decided to try T-Sal.

It’s WORKING! My scalp doesn’t feel too dry, and it definitely feels cleaner. Less build-up by day 2-3 of no washing. My scabs are healing and I haven’t had a new breakout or bump since starting it. I use it 2x/week and always double wash; first I wash with this stuff to clean my scalp and get rid of buildup & oil and make sure to let it sit for ~3-5 mins, then I do a second wash with a more hydrating shampoo. Works like a charm!

I just wish it had a better scent, but I’m sure fragrance-free is better for me. Prior to this I was also using Neutrogena’s Healthy Scalp clarifying shampoo (pink bottle), which smells like fresh, juicy grapefruit. That one cleans oil from my hair well and helps remove product buildup. I might use that AND t-sal now!

Highly recommend it if you have scalp issues or irritations. 👍🏼

Soothes my itchy scalp and hair wasn’t too dry after using. Didn’t help the hair flaking problem very much tho. Bottle is very small, considered expensive.

Value for money product , I use it sparingly as it doesnt need much to do the job
