I’ve been using this for approximately 3 months. I am early 30s F, with fine long hair, a medium amount of thickness, dyed + highlighted. I usually have to shower every day or max 2 days as my scalp is on the oilier side. I bought Nioxin as my hair seemed to feel thinner than usual. Probably due to stress. I also have hair loss in my family.
Firstly, a shampoo is not going to give you significantly more hair. It can clean your scalp well enough and potentially stimulate your hair follicles to grow a little bit faster. A product like Nioxin has stimulating agents to help with the regular growth cycle of your hair. It’s also very cleansing. Keep in mind you need to leave it on for 6+ minutes for it to penetrate the scalp. There have been studies about this. You don’t want to just lather up and wash it off, as that’s not going to give you any of the intended effects.
For my hair type, I have found that it helps “fluff up” my hair significantly. The picture is how voluminous my hair looks after using Nioxin. My hair is usually quite flat. I use it one or two times a week. First I wash my hair with a normal shampoo to get the dirt and oiliness out. Then I shampoo Nioxin in really well with a silicone shampoo brush. I leave it on my scalp for several minutes while I finish up my shower. It has a nice cooling effect on the scalp. It does not damage my hair or my hair colour – though it might strip some hair colours.
At 3 months (I still have about another month of use with this bottle), I am not too sure if I have noticed any more hair growth. It may take some more time to tell. I am not using any other hair growth products with this.
Overall I think this is a nice shampoo for cleansing, but don’t have high expectations for it in terms of actually growing hair. I’m quite happy with the volumizing effect of this.

I don’t know if this shampoo along with its conditioner will help me with my hair loss but I don’t care, I’m going to keep buying them. My hair has never been so soft and full and has never looked this good. I can even live with my currently thinner hair if I have to because of how much better it is with this shampoo and conditioner. I will say, the shampoo did sting my scalp, but it’s worth the discomfort and I think it’s stimulating blood flow so it’s all good. Note, you need to use less than you would with other shampoos, a little goes along way. I wish I knew about these products years ago.
