The manufacturer has changed the product. You do not have to add a heat activator to the perming solution, it now comes premixed (it does not get hot). They also included a small bottle of preconditioner before perming and an after-perm conditioner in the packaging. It does not come with the cotton to keep your skin from coming into contact with the perming solution, so you will need to go buy some or have other means to protect your skin. This is an easy-to-use product.

I used the kind for colored hair because I have, long ago, bleached my hair and colored it vibrant colors. It’s been a while, but the ends are still processed even though the rest has grown out.
I skipped the preconditioner because my hair is in great shape – it was unclear to me whether this is a necessary chemical component, or just a protective one. If it’s required for the perm solution to function, then the failure is my fault. If not, it’s still a mystery why this did not work.
I put the curlers in – my hair is long, I wanted waves, so I did 1″ curlers. The perm solution soaked through, I left it on for 35 minutes, then a few more. Followed the rest of the steps and when I took the curlers out, my hair was barely wavy. By the next day, it was completely straight. I didn’t wash it or brush it or do any of those not-recommended things. I was careful. Maybe I should have left it on for longer, but I was reaching the max time and didn’t want my hair to turn to mush.
I might try again, though, and leave it on longer.
