I have been wet shaving for about 20 years and like to try out different products from time to time. If I had a bias when trying this product it was probably negative as I really didn’t expect much.

I followed my normal pre-shave routine, then put 8 drops in my palm, rubbed my palms together and applied the oil to my damp face. It’s not really that visible but you can tell where you are getting coverage. With a fresh Derby blade the cushion and glide was fantastic. From the lack of drag I figured there may not have been much cutting going on. After finishing my traditional with the grain pass I was surprised to feel my face and realize it was already a very close, very good shave. For an average day or if in a hurry I would have been happy to stop right there without any further passes.

I had also ordered some Pacific Shaving Company Caffeinated Shaving Cream and was anxious to try that. I already had my brush soaking. I re-wet my face and could still feel plenty of oil remaining. I face lathered the cream on my face, over the oil and was rewarded with a shave that can only be described as luxurious.

No matter what type of razor you use I believe the shaving oil on it’s own could work very, very well for quite a few people. It rinses off easily and doesn’t clog the razor like some other oils. For me, if I’m in a hurry or just need a good everyday shave I will have no problem using this oil on it’s own. It’s also a great size to travel with. For days I want a baby butt smooth shave I will either do two or three passes with just this oil, but more likely will use it in conjunction with a quality cream like the Caffeinated cream for a really nice, really smooth shave.

If you are reading this and haven’t tried traditional/wet shaving I urge you to give it a try. A quality double edge safety razor can be purchased on Amazon for an extremely reasonable price for something that will last generations. And say good bye to the gimmicky blade cartridge dujour. Quality double edge blades like Derby’s can be purchased on Amazon for around $15 for 200. If you used a fresh blade for every shave the savings over cartridges would still be significant, and with good products such as this one you can also enjoy a superior shave that is easier on your skin.

I got this to replace the heavy and bulky can of shaving cream in my travel kit. Even the “travel size” can takes up a lot of room in your TSA liquids bag when travelling, so I thought I’d give this shaving oil a try after reading about the concept of saving oils in “The Wall Street Journal”.

Well, it’s been since August 2013 since I have used shaving cream. I’ve purchased a larger (2 ounce) bottle for home, use the 0.5 ounce for travelling, and have given some away to friends. I have yet to empty a bottle (I shave every other day) but I’m working out of several. 7 drops does it for me, and you’ll get as smooth a shave as you got with saving cream. Your skin feels better afterwards, there’s no trouble keeping your sideburns even, and blades seem to last a lot longer (I think the coating of oil on the blade prevents pitting, but that’s my unscientific theory).

So, in summary, this takes up less space, costs less, is more environmentally friendly (no cans to recycle) and works better than cream or gel. Give it a try and become a convert yourself!

It does nothing. Plain and simple.

Wanting to improve the quality of my shave routine, after doing some research, I decided to pick up this small bottle of shaving oil due to good reviews. Overall, I’m very pleased. the scent is a nice, subtle citrus smell that doesn’t linger, and a little of the oil goes a long way. I tried to use the oil in two very different scenarios:

    1. First I tried it on an ideal shave – fresh out of the shower, applied pre-shave and set as I whipped up some shaving cream with a badger brush. I was hoping it would ease up on the roughness on my third pass, against the grain – it didn’t really help much here but what I did notice was at the end – It’s not uncommon to have a little minor cut here and there since I shave with a DE and am not particularly careful. After the shave with this oil however my skin was practically unscathed – when applying an alcohol-based aftershave I got no burn whatsoever – that’s a first!

    2. I wanted to see how well it would perform under more extreme circumstances. No shower, simply splashed a little hot water on my face and applied oil. Waited a couple minutes and shaved with just the oil, wetting my face once after each pass. It was a little rougher, but was left with a very serviceable shave. The tiny bottle would be a great compact option for short trips when you need to do a quick maintenance shave or two. The oil would likely stand on its own for those who have thinner beards or perhaps shaving other body parts (legs, head etc) as an easy replacement for foams/creams/soaps.

In the end it does a great job of improving the quality of my shave – there’s definitely a clear value to adding pre-shave oil to your routine, and it can also stand on its own as a substitute for shaving cream when necessary.

Ps. Thanks to the seller for the free gifts!

This shaving oil works pretty well. It applies cleanly and makes for a comfortable shave. I use a double edge safety razor and use a multipass shave method (never against the grain). It feels as though there is still a bit of stubble left behind after using this oil, but I wonder if that might just be because of technique. I have tried it both by itself and as a pre-lather oil. By itself seemed to work the best as the lather washed a lot of it away. My only other oil shave comparison is some Shaver’s Secret that came in a race swag bag. The PSC oil is more neutral in scent and feeling, which I haven’t decided if I like yet. I rather liked the minty cool feeling that the Shaver’s Secret gives. My biggest issue with the PSC oil is the dropper is a little too narrow, requiring a decent amount of force to get even a few drops out. Nothing I am sure a safety pin can’t fix.

Compact size is great for travel. Let me get a good clean, shave without having to carry bulky shaving cream.
