I have always had fine soft hair and now after menopause and being ill its even thinner than it used to be.

When I was given the opportunity to try this set I was very excited as I had heard of Philip Kingsley.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are lovely, have a nice herbal smell and feel like quality when you use them. Sometimes when I have used shampoos like this that are supposed to stop hair falling when I shower there is very little hair that comes out, however I did find that I lost about the same amount as I do when using a general shampoo. The shampoo doesn’t lather a great deal but I learned several years ago that a good quality one doesn’t. if you wash twice there is lather. The instructions advise to massage the shampoo into your hair for 60 seconds.

My hair does look to me quite a bit thicker and healthy when using these products and hopefully the longer I use them the better it will become.

With regards to the other bottle of product provided, the Density Preserving Scalp Drops I have only used this a couple of times as it does make my hair greasy so not suitable for every day use, for a man this might not be an issue as they may have short hair.

Good starter pack or travel pack size to try products from this range. Within the pack is 75ml thickening shampoo, 75ml thickening conditioner 85ml of preserving scalp drops. This gives you a good opportunity to try several products in the Philip Kingsley range as it is an expensive brand of high quality that offers lots of products to help fine hair, hair growth and reduce hair loss. The products all smell quite nice but not a strong perfume. You would need to use the products over the longer term to see if the longer term results are worth the price tag as it can be difficult to tell over the shorter term but these products left my hair feeling nice although it is best to use the shampoo twice during washing your hair as it lathers better the second time.

This collection has a shampoo and conditioner, which is rather a small trial size that looks like it can only last for two weeks, and a serum, which is a full size that should last longer.

The shampoo feels very mild. It won’t lather too much on the first use, and I applied a second round with better lather. It feels natural and mild, not harsh at all.

The conditioner is weak, not norishing enough, leaving hair a little too dry with tingles. But it feels natural and not harsh. So I will use more next time to create a better results. But this trial size is just too small to go with the shampoo.

I like the serum better. It looks like a gel serum you normally use for your face. It smells menthol and minty, and it is very refreshing to use. It brings a cool feeling to the scalp, and it is not oily at all. I like scalp serum that is not oily. I use the dropper to get around 1 ml, and I use my fingers to rub it gently onto the scalp after I finish washing and towel-drying my hair.

Overall the product looks good quality and I like it. My only concern is the shampoo and conditioner being too small. If I want to use these three products together at the same rate, I predict I will need at least two sets of shampoo and 5 sets of conditioner to match one bottle of serum.

This is an excellent kit if you want to try the full-sized products from this Capilip Kingsley range. I’ve been really impressed with all of these and I feel like they’ve really improved the condition of my scalp especially when all used together. The scalp serum is my favourite by far and it helps with any itchiness or flakiness on the scalp as well as improving the smoothness and thickness of the hair both by helping the scalp to feel better and promote hair growth but also improving and thickening the appearance of the hair you already have. I feel like my hair also has more volume and the quality overall has improved.

I like this shampoo and conditioner as well although these are quite a small size so great as a sample or brilliant as if you want to give for a gift for someone. They cleanse really nicely without stripping and the conditioner is great and helps hair to look nice and thick. The scent is pleasant and the consistency is nice to use. You don’t need very much of these to get a good effect. I’m very pleased with this set overall.

The first thing I noticed about this item was the overpackaging – it comes in quite a large box which has carboard inserts to display each product individually. I felt that this was a bit unnecessary and definitely not environmentally friendly in my opinion, and it also felt that they were trying to justify the high cost of the the item (£34 at time of order). I should also note that the tubes are quite small, I reckon you’ll only get half a dozen or so washes (you’ll probably have to wash twice as the shampoo is quite mild) out of the shampoo tube unless you have very short hair. My final gripe is that the words “shampoo” and “conditioner” are written in VERY small font on the tubes, and both tubes have exactly the same design – this causes major problems for those of us who wear reading glasses!
OK, down to what’s important – do they work. Well, I can’t say I’ve noticed any improvement in either thickness or the rate at which I’m losing hair (which is a lot!), but I don’t wash my hair every day so in reality I’ve used this less than half a dozen washes so far. The shampoo and conditioner are both fairly inoffensive in terms of scent, pleasant but not overpowering.
The serum is a bit of a faff as it’s in a dropper bottle, but I’m really pleased that it isn’t heavy and greasy like lots of other treatments I’ve tried. In fact, my hair doesn’t feel greasy or weighed down at all, which is a big plus in my book as I hate greasy roots! A month is not long enough for me to comment on whether hair drop will be decreased, but I’m constrained by the review rules – if I do find a noticeable improvement in the rate at which I’m losing hair, I’ll be returning to this review to update it favourably.
As a treatment set it’s okay in that it washes and conditions just fine, but I think it’s a little pricey for what it is.
