Full Disclosure. For the most part, I prefer shaving with a regular razor but I like to have an electric razor for times when you are in a hurry. My current electric razor is probably 25 years old and not in great shape so this seemed like a good choice. The short version is that this is a very good product.

Most important is the quality of the shave. The manual (which is quite good and understandable), says you need to use it for 21 days for maximum performance. I have been using daily it for about a week. The initial shave started out decent but as the week progressed, it has gotten smoother and better. My official beard tester (my wife) also agrees. The shave quality still isn’t quite as good as a regular razor but it is quite good. Much better than my old electric and very acceptable.

The unit itself is very nice sized. It fits easily in your hand and is very quiet and light. It comes with a nice case and has a cover for the top of the razor. Cleanup is a breeze because it is waterproof. You just take off the blade assembly and rinse it off. A great improvement over my current shaver where you have to use brushes to do the cleaning. The instructions say “Never dry the shaving unit with a towel or tissue as this may damage the shaving heads”. They want you to air dry it which is fine but if you are traveling this might be a problem as it will take a while for it to air dry. The cap fits tight so if you close it up without it being dry it probably would not be good.

The only other minor annoyance is the charging. The charging cable has a standard USB-A plug on one end and you need to provide a charger. That is fine because most people likely have many of these. The problem is on the other end. It is a proprietary connector. That means you need this particular cable if you travel. Also, if the cable goes bad, you will have no way to charge the unit until purchase a replacement cable. Norelco isn’t the only company to do this. Fitbit and Garmin also have proprietary connectors and they are equally annoying. But it means that I need to bring all these specialized cables with me when I travel instead of just having a standard USB C connection. I suspect the issue has to do with waterproofing but I still would like a more industry standard connector.

Overall, this is an excellent product and meets my needs nicely. I will continue to use this.

I was excited to receive the nice-looking Philips shaver because of the quality materials used in their products. I was surprised that this style irritated my sensitive skin when I used it the first time. I have purchased plenty of other shavers by Philips and did not have any issues, but this was a negative experience for me. I do like that the shaver is compact, has a good traveling case, and uses a USB C cord to charge the razer. I was impressed with the looks but the tough cut on my skin was a not so pleasant surprise. I think others would have a better experience with normal skin.

Super lightweight, small, with a sleek hard shell case that zips closed and would be good for traveling. Boasts a two month charging hold which I haven’t fully tested for accuracy, but it likely fairly accurate given that this is a well know trusted brand. It also includes a travel lock feature so it won’t turn on if it gets bumped in a bag, which is really handy if you travel. I’ve had shavers/trimmers turn on while bouncing around in luggage, causing them to completely drain the battery, which causes a problem if you charge before you leave home and intentionally don’t bring the cord.

The shaver can sit flat or upside down while charging, and a small blue light slowly blinks while charging. The charge cord has a two-prong connector that goes into the shaver, so not a standard USB/USB-C, though it might be the same connector across all Philips Noreclo products if you also have a beard trimmer or hair clippers; I’m not sure.

In my experience, it left a little bit of stubble first time using dry. Also tried it wet on day 2. Sometimes it got close shave, but skipped a lot wet. The blades do slightly move to adjust to chin & neck. The instructions mention a guarantee of trying for 21 days to allow skin to adjust to the shaver. I have found that to be necessary, and after a couple weeks the shave has gotten consistently close.

To me, it has a high pitched sound when on, which I’ve noticed with some other shavers too. While not super loud, it could be an issue if using this in a vanity area while someone is trying to sleep in a nearby adjoining bedroom. The sound is lessened some if using wet.

    Design, functionality but over priced

Phillips Norelco finally introduced a compact, rechargeable travel shaver with excellent heads! It’s compact, lightweight, has a travel lock, and gives a close shave. While the shaver is easily a five-start product, I am only giving it four stars because it came with a “unique” USB 5V charging cable, one with a USB-A on one end a double-hole connect on the other. Now I have yet another cable type. I thought the EU put a stop to this nonsense! The shaver’s case is overkill. I’m going to use to store the cord and leave both the case and cord at home. Fully charged, I should get two months use before it needs recharging.

This is a more of a travel shaver that is functional, good battery life and in a nice and compact design. It’s a minimalist design with no UX. It does give a clean shave, though with 2 shave heads, it will have less coverage than a standard 3 head shaver. I would have preferred a USB-C charger than a proprietary connector. It’s also at a premium price point with competition from non name brand products that run quite a bit lower. Good functional product that is worth trying if one cares about it from a well known brand.

I shave daily with a Norelco 9000 series shaver. I needed a more compact product for my upcoming motorcycle trip. This shaver give me almost as good of a shave as the bigger shaver I use. It is very compact and can be locked so the power button is not activated by accident. I am impressed with the design and with the shave quality of this small shaver. Well done, Norelco!
