Excellent Detergency and Foamability: This surfactant offers impressive cleaning power while maintaining good foam stability. It’s effective in removing dirt and oils, making it an essential ingredient for any cleansing product.

The product arrived containing less than 500ml because it leaked inside the package. 😔
It was too expensive to accept and keep the product in this condition, with less content than it should have. 😔

This is a 500ml bottle of pure SLES – Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate.

It’s the foamy part of most shampoos and body washes and some soaps. It’s quite harsh as a cleanser and so works really well in shampoo as a clarifying agent.

I dabble in DIT toiletries and cosmetics, but only for myself, I don’t sell anything. For that reason, buying cosmetic ingredients can be difficult as they tend to come in very large quantities. This 500ml bottle is great. Not too huge to store but plenty in there. The bottle suggests using at between 0.1 – 50% in a recipe, so quite a variation. I shall have to experiment.

The lid both screws off for pouring, and has a flip cap with a smaller hole for more precise pouring. It has no scent beyond that vague detergent smell.

I tried a bit diluted with water on my hands and it’s nice and foamy and should be a great addition to my homemade clarifying shampoo.

I’ve only tried this as a regular hand-wash. I like the good lather it creates and it was lacking in some homemade recipes I tried before, so I’m really excited to master those and use some in gift baskets.

  6. Customer Review

Great for creating your own soaps, shampoos etc. I’ve made a few different soaps and they’ve come out really well.

As others have mentioned, it says it’s 100% SLES however it cannot be as it’s a liquid. I think it’s the normal 27% solution. In terms of value for money, even considering the small quantity, not great…

Been using this SLeS for body wash formulas. It’s hard getting surfactants sent to Guam so I was happy they mailed out the order. I was going to order again but now it says they don’t ship to my location anymore. 🙁

  8. JavaJunkie

I’m pleased with the quality of this MYOC Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate. It arrived intact with a seal securing the lid closed. I’ve been experimenting with DIY handsoaps and dish soap. The results have been good. It’s non irritating and effective as a cleanser.

  9. Another Customer Reviewer

Judging by its viscosity, this SLES solution is obviously not 100% because you couldn’t physically pour it from the bottle. I suspect that “100%” actually means there is nothing else in the solution, apart from water.

After adding about 10 ml to two litres of warm water in a washing up bowl, it seems to be less effective at creating a lather than the same amount of cheap washing-up liquid (which costs around 70p for the same 500 ml).

Given that there is no information supplied about typical dilutions for various DIY formulations, I would not recommend using this for anything unless you do some proper research and testing. At £25.90 for 500 ml, I cannot see how this represents good value.
