  1. Stuff&Things

This product from Solara SUncare is a novel way to gain protection from the sun’s harmful rays. I have never used a sunscreen/serum combo product and I find this one works pretty well. The texture is fairly light and a small amount goes on easily to give good coverage. This serum or milk is not greasy and gives a little hydration boost as well. Overall, this product does a good job of providing protection from the sun and is gentle enough on my sometimes sensitive skin for daily wear.

This sunscreen comes in a glass bottle and has a long squeeze dropper as a dispenser. I dispensed the sunscreen onto my fingers then rubbed onto my face and neck. A little different then just squeezing a tube. It is more of a milky liquid that goes on smooth and feels silky. When first applied, it has a whitish tint, but absorbs quickly. I only feel a slight stickiness after absorption. It is pretty expensive at $56 an ounce, but it should last awhile since it really only takes a small amount to cover the face and neck. I like having this in my cupboard to use before applying foundation in the morning. It seems to work pretty well as a sunscreen, but it also says to reapply every 2 hours. Note that it is not water resistant. But I do like that it is reef safe.

  3. Thala

While this sunscreen does work quite well, I found it awkward to use – it’s a thin liquid in a dropper bottle – and it felt quite heavy and greasy once applied. I did like that there was little to no white cast from this sunscreen, but I personally prefer less runny formulations that finish dry.

    Love this!!!

I’m really appreciating this product. I spend a lot of time outdoors and sometimes sunscreen for your face takes away effects of all the other products I had just put on. But this one really adds to my daily regimen. My face looks and feels healthy and plump.
I can go for hours in the Sun and not experience any redness or pinkness for that matter.
It absorbs pretty quickly and leaves no white appearance.

If you’re looking for a reef-safe sunscreen to use on your face, then this could be for you. I ordered this because we go to the Hawaiian islands at least once a year where mainstream sunscreens are banned. This sunscreen is much more lightweight than squeeze tube products, but I suppose it is more like what comes out of the spray types. I don’t really like the squeeze dropper applicator. But the sunscreen doesn’t leave a white cast like many mineral sunscreens, and it does a good job of protecting my face in the sun for many hours.

This is my first experience with sunscreen milk. From what I understand, sunscreen milk is favored by those who like a sunscreen that has more of a serum consistency. This one is very light, and blended into my skin easily.

There is no scent, and it provides SPF 50 coverage. The bottle is compact, which makes it ideal for travel.

My main issue is that I didn’t care for the required dropper. Even when the bottle was full, I found that the dropper only released a very small drop of the milk. This may be fine for smaller applications, but if you are wanting more sunscreen, then having to use the dropper is frustrating.

This is one of my more complicated reviews. I’m reviewing my skin after using this sunscreen milk for the third day in a row, while having to reapply it because I spent many hours outdoors. This sunscreen, hands down, delivers upon its promise of being plumping. It has also proven to be very effective in protecting my skin when it was directly exposed to sunlight – during the time of day when UV was the highest, and when I was walking on the beach.

Having said that? This was one of the oiliest-feeling sunscreens I’ve ever used. Which is interesting because there’s actually no oil in the product. Regardless of the amount of time I shook the bottle, or how much I rubbed the product into my skin – it was simply very oily in feeling and in appearance.

Was it effective? Absolutely. Was it calming to my skin when I wore it while being directly exposed to the sun for hours? Yes. Was I able to reapply layers as needed? Yes.

But was it a tricky sunscreen to use? Yes.

I also noticed that this left a purple cast on my skin. I’m used to most sunscreens leaving a white cast, unless those products specifically call out that they’re not going to produce that effect. But using this sunscreen milk was the first time that I saw a purple cast on my skin. While it eventually sunk into my skin, it didn’t work as a facial sunscreen because I had to use too many additional products to cancel out the cast.

But I made the initial mistake of using this on my face and neck, and it was too heavy in that capacity. Using it on my legs, arms, hands, and feet gave me better results.

Perhaps I’ll be able to use this on my face during the cooler months when I still need to protect my skin from the sun. But for now, during the last weeks of summer when the temperature is over 85 degrees Fahrenheit, and there’s a high level of humidity? This sunscreen unfortunately didn’t work well with my face.

But it’s been a powerhouse on other areas of my skin To the point where I’ll likely purchase a body sunscreen from this brand, as it’s proven its effectiveness.
