Realmente bueno.

    Hey;
I’ve always used Mach series shavers, It is said that with a good shaver like this Parker Adjustable Safety Razor, you can get the closest shave possible next to a barber shave with a straight razor. Not sure about that, but it beats a Mach 3 hands down.
Yeah there is a learning curve, but once mastered, Wow!
    Hint, go slow.
The Parker Razor is hefty but balanced, it’s easy to use, blades are easy to change and inexpensive compared to cartridges.
The adjustable feature is nice in that it allows you to open the shaver wider with longer facial hair so the shaver doesn’t clog.
Parker makes a great shaver, and I can recommend this one.

I paid for my razor, I received no benefits from anyone.

The heading says it all, I just got it yesterday, shaved, and I loved it. I’m new to DE shaving and bought the Merkur 34c. Didn’t love that, it was way too mild of a shaver for me, never a nick. A friend gave me his old DE razor, a much more aggressive shave but it took several weeks before I learned to shave nick free. It was a better razor but still not as efficient as what I want. That is too many passes to come away with a smooth face. The Variant was much an improvement for sure.

Out of the box it looks great. I got the black handle option (it was a $1 cheaper) and I really like it. It looks very well done.

It is a heavy razor and has a long handle. I like it. I didn’t notice any issues with grip. I did with the Merkur. The long handle is nice, seems more natural to me.

Nice feedback when I shave, I can hear/feel the cutting which I like.

You have to put the head on in alignment with the base. I wish this was keyed so that there was only one way to put the head on to avoid putting it on backwards. You have to be careful with that.

It took me a while to realize there is a hole drilled at the base which I believe is to note where you like to adjust the razor. Make note of what number setting you like under that hole. I started with about a 3 to 4 setting. It goes way higher.

the mechanism that allows for adjustment is a spring loaded base plate. As you tighten at the bottom, the top plate is pulled down, compressing a spring of some sort which bows the blade, at maximum tension, the blade is the least exposed and creates the most mild shave, at the maximum, it looks dangerous to me. I wont be go to max in the foreseeable future.

to remove the top plate to replace the blade one unscrews from the bottom, which releases all the pressure on the spring, the top comes off, you put in the new blade, this is where you have to pay attention, make sure the top and bottom plates have the markings on the same side, then start tightening the bottom until you feel the spring begin to resist and dial in your favorite settings (number below the hole). Make sure your blade looks good (not goofed, bowed funny, etc.) and you are good to go.

As I get used to my new Variant and learn more about it, I will return here and update.

I have been using double edge razors for many years. And I have acquired many of them including Merker, Muhle, King Gillette, and several others. I have found that the Parker adjustable gives me a great close shave comparable to the others, and only an occasional nick here and there. I have been using it for several months now. Its well-made and I expect that it will last a long time. It is my go-to razor for now.

right from when i unpacked the razor and held it in my hand the first thing that came to my mind was, this razor means business.
this razor is heavy, more than 100 grams heavy
which tells us about its awesome build quality. this may last for a lifetime. its adjustable for blade agression from 1 to 5 with 1 being the least agressive and 5 being the most agressive. so no need to have multiple safety razors for multiple agression level settings. its a 2 piece design so tightning and opening the razor happens from the bottom of the handle that adds more to the safety while loading and unloading a blade. its heavy weight means you dont have to apply pressure at all while shaving and the weight does all the work you just have to slide the blade on your beard. its also knurled across the whole handle so there is even less chance for it to slip from your hands.

overall a terrific safety razor. can wholeheartedly recommended.

PS – i was using bombay shaving company razor and i can say this is a massive upgrade from it. if you want to buy a safety razor for the first time i recommend you try this. you wont regret your decision as this can be very mild if you keep the setting at 1.

Hopefully this comparison review might give you some extra information in your research and save you time.

I started DE shaving about two years ago, so I not an expert, but have some good experience. My latest and most expensive razor purchase is the Parker Variant. I’ve bought and tried maybe ten-fifteen lower-cost razors previously and give away all but the top few.

Shave: The Variant gives a great shave for me on level 3 with Derby Extra blades and Edge orange-cap gel. I got sbout at week of double-pass shaves from one 10 cent blade.

Grip: I like that the Variant has knurling on the handle. It does help some. I hold the razor a bit higher though with my fore-finger above where there is no knurling.

Build quaily and function: The quality seems good and functions and adjusts really well.

Rinsing: I really like the long and completely open channels for rinsing, and do not clog or have reasonable potential to clog like the multi-blade disposables do. Easy to rinse and does not delay shaving.

Loading a blade: Easy to load a blade. With the Variant hold the top cap by the ends then loosen about three turns, pull off the head, dump the blade, load a new blade over the screw and pins, hold the new blade on by the ends, load the cap back to the body with about three turns to bottom out, then adjust back to height setting.

Adjustment: I grasp the razor head with thumb on top and handle between first two fingers. Twist the bottom of the handle.

Appearance: My personal Variant that I bought has a matte finish that is a little more gold or amber than a sliver color. I like the matte finish for its slickness. The black coating on the handle of the Variant is a bit translucent and generally lighter than I thought, which doesn’t hurt its performance and looks fine.

Under the nose: Not able to easily get all the whisker up high under my nose. I use another razor with thinner head to be sure to get them all. The Variant leaves the blade exposed on the edges, which you could cut your nose with the side of the blade if you are not careful enough.

Safety-bar-comb: The Variant has a slight not-open skid pad, diagonal, and about 4mm wide.

In conclusion, the Variant is a very good razor, handsome and manly (R-R-R) on the bathroom counter! It is not my favorite though.

    Happy shaving!

Update: I found the Schick Injector and have a new favorite. I have a 60’s non-adjustable and a 70’s adjustable used from eBay with blades from Amazon. Fantastic blade life, easiest shaves, long blade life. I gave my Variant to a friend.

I have been wet shaving for 3 years. Started with a cheap no brand one. Then bought two cheap adjustables, one from weishi and one from qshave. Both were decent but had the blade sitting more exposed on one side. I eventually decided to spend more and get this parker variant. It made a huge difference. I haven’t gotten a single nick and didn’t feel the blade as much on my skin even on the most aggressive setting. In addition it looks and feels really good. A worth purchase. Keep in mind that I have been wet shaving for a while hence my technique is good. If you are a beginner buy something cheaper or don’t expect perfect results with this razor in the start. Start with the mildest setting then work you way up till you find a comfortable setting and perfect your technique.
