I heard about Skin Food as a dupe for La Mer and that is is not, but it is a very rich moisturize for seriously dry skin. I found that to be too think for my liking, but I’ve purchased this light version time and time again. It’s the last step of my nightly skin routine and helped my face adjust to using Tretinoin by locking in moisture and preventing drying discomfort. It has a light scent and is indeed thick, but not unmanageable.

Ich verwende sie für den Hals und Dekolleté um die Partien mit ausreichend Feuchtigkeit zu versorgen. Der Geruch ist okay. Riecht irgendwie nach lavendel. Muss man mögen. This review is for the Skin Food LIGHT version, which is the version I recommend over the regular version.
First, I’ll address what a lot of other reviews have said were negative points, but also with commentary about how this product is still 100% worth it!
1) The smell – Yes, it smells like you’re putting gin on your face. I really can’t explain it as any other smell. The first time I applied it, I was pretty grossed out. But once I knew what to expect, I got over it with all my other applications. Because the cream itself is worth it, despite the smell. Also, the smell goes away after 10 minutes.
2) The consistency – It’s thick, but not thick like cream cheese. The regular version is thick like cream cheese. The light version is thick but still very clean feeling when applied. It has a cream makeup primer consistency, and it in fact makes an EXCELLENT primer. I recommend using this lotion as a primer that also hydrates your skin instead of using a makeup primer. It’s better for your skin, and it gives you that really beautiful dewey look once your makeup is fully applied. If using this as a primer, you absolutely have to use some kind of foundation or BB cream over it. Otherwise, it’ll look greasy instead of dewey.
3) The price – It’s so cheap for what it is! This is comparable in function to some of the other $150+ creams on the market. Yes, the texture isn’t as luxurious. Yes, the smell is certainly in need of reformulation. But for the price, you can’t beat how good it makes your skin look under makeup, and how hydrated your skin will remain with this cream.

My hands are in water a lot, so they can get dry. Weleda contains ingredients that keep the moisture in my skin without being greasy. It isn’t watered down like so many lotions are. It smells great! I keep a tube in the car, on my nightstand, and in the bathroom to apply on arms and legs after a shower. It’s gentle enough for a facial moisturizer too! I do wish it was a more affordable price.
